Just get into the habit of making the gym your new lifestyle. It's not going to be a once a week month, or twice a week thing, or 5x a week for 7 months kinda thing. It's going to be consistent lifting for the next 5+ years, and ideally, the rest of your life.
You won't get super big without roids, but you will get "healthy big" without them. Just lift, eat, maybe do light cardio (I run 1 mile 3x/wk for heart health) and you're good to go.

I burn 500 calories with 3 miles of running at 7.5 miles/hr. Split into 3 separate days in a week. That's an extra meal a week. If that kills your gains, you had no gains to begin with.
