big ones

amazon probably won't be a good place to buy this. find some gym-oriented shops and buy the thickest floors you can, thicker:more protection

Even with mats you're still going to break the tiles.

why that plate is thick while being 45 lb?

Bumper plate.
The Iron is more or less encased in rubber or a similar substance so you can drop it from heights without breaking it.
It's what is commonly used in Olympic Weightlifting.
most people buy 3/4" horse stall mats from tractor supply. they're like $70 for 4x8

I'd recommend mats that cover the tiles so your wife wont cry over broken tiles

>3/4"
this sounds good

You'll want to place some hardwood between the floor tiles and the mats or the tiles are going to crack regardless. The more you can distribute the weight across the tiles, the better.

There are a few guides on line but basically plywood and rubber matting

This, it's like $40 in some places, or check Craigslist for used shit for cheaper, some people use them for truck bed liners so search for those too
