At my noob level doing Push-ups and pull-ups has helped me look better. I'm thinking. One program has you increasing how many push-ups you do a day by 50 each week which seems good.
Seriously. When I used to do 10 reps and now I do 30 when I do one of those random sets. Went from 1 to 10 for pull-ups too. I don't look much bigger though.

surely it's better to do multiple variants, and not just diamonds?

My experience from running a college mma club is that we'd get a lot of newcomers with very little muscle, would make them do hundreds of pushups (~30-100 a day), and would get visible results within two or three months
>tfw fell for the squat meme
>tfw all of my mass and strength is in my legs
>tfw can't do pushups or pullups for shit
Th-thanks /fit/...
