Bodyweight or weight lifting for skinny guys?

Hey /fit/, skinny guy here.

I heard that skinny dudes should do exercises of 3-4 sets of about 6-12 reps to gain muscle mass. I can reach my limit with about 3x10 diamond push ups or 3x7 chin ups. Is it worth buying a gym membership, or should I continue to do body weight exercises until I need more than 3x12 reps to reach my limit?

You should eat more, and hit the gym, do compound lifts like squats, bench, OHP and deadlifts. Read the sticky and do Starting Strength for a few months. As a newbie you should focus on adding weights to the bar and stay in the 3 sets, 5 reps range. Your gains with bodyweight exercises will be very slow and unbalanced.

As for your question, I was in a similar position and I when I started lifting everything increased rapidly. It even became easier to eat more food. Do greyskull LP
