Just got done watching a film on Netflix called 'The Perfect Physique', and something that one of the guy's said is that if you want to mimic heavy weight training then you can use a light weight really slow and it's as if you're using 3x the weight. Does /fit/ have any experience with this?
Time under tension to increase volume. It's what should be used to practice form on compound lifts and doesn't net gains unless you're on a cocktail of drugs.
Its mostly right.
Your body doesn't actually have a scale built into it.
Resistance is resistance, the main difference in results coming from the body can or cannot deal with aerobically.

Mechanical tension is a major factor in building muscle. Also slow twitch fibers don't grow was much as fast twitch. Going faster with more weight will build more muscle, but if you dont have access to that, i guess go light and slow

OP here, so if, for instance, I can curl 20kg for 5 reps, I can curl 5kg for 5reps at -4x speed and get the the same gains?

Pretty much. Though I wouldn't think its a perfect 1:1 scale like that. You could probably do 10kg at -4x speed because speed isn't the sole factor in completing reps.

I've heard something like count 3 secs during the positve, hold for a second, count four secs on the negative. I've also heard 5 secs positive, 5 secs negative.
This guy preached this shit 30 years ago.

I like how comfy the Jew in the front middle looks. He makes everyone else look like they're constipated
Back in high school we had to count 5 seconds going down on our squats
this looks so fucking gay man

I've also watched it, and yes it's pretty fucking homoerotic.
