Are lifting shoes necessary for high bar squats?

i had knee pain squatting over 400 barefoot, but then i got some of the shoes in OP and the knee pain just disappeared. highly recommend

Barefoot is a meme, proper arch support helps in all lifts. Don't wear soft running shoes as regular shoes, wear something thin and flexable that provides good support.
