Who cares. Post when you can bench 160 lbs, so you can lift the average American woman's balloon knot up and down on your pecker.

He thinks because he squats high bar his lifts are at least twice as good, but we all know that lowbar only adds about 10%

the best cue I got for that is

"make yourself tall"

if you want an exercise to practice it you can do muscle cleans

and in general just practice more, the form comes with time but keep that cue in mind and do some muscle cleans and you will get it down

Well while bench is not the most importnat lift for athletes, i feel like it's a good proof if you got the upperbody genes for strength sports. If you suck at the bench press, so will all your other upperbody exercises.

I don't bench much anymore, but when i did, i went to 140kg in less than three years. I've always had a very strong and rigid upperbody, and it really helps with jerks and snatches.

>>
>>41706137
I'd trust his programming/training knowledge 100%.

Classic case of obsessive autism, without the physical genetics to back it up.
>>
>>41705687
I like the SSB for high volume work. High rep sets (say, 7 and upwards) on straight bar feel like death for me. My technique breaks down and I end up using my back/hips too much in the later reps and my legs don't feel like the limiting factor. In addition my shoulders rotate inward slightly as the set progresses. All this takes away from the purpose of the training. SSB on the other hand is max comfy. I actually feel my legs as being the limiting factor. Weight still feels (moderately) comfortable on my shoulders even after 10 reps.

Easy choice for me.
>>
>>41706158
If I saw someone with a mouthguard in the gym, I would assume they are autistic.
>>
>>41706137
Izzy has an extremely obsessive and competitive personality. He has read pretty much everything in existence about powerlifting, strength training, increasing muscle size etc. Don't blindly follow what he says of course, but he's certainly not just spouting his uneducated opinion.

I'm not really a powerlifter, but i figure most people here know what they're talking about so i'm gonna ask it in this thread

I want to switch over to the PHUL routine: https://www.muscleandstrength.com/workouts/phul-workout

It has 2x upper body days and 2 lower body days. One of the lower body days has deadlifts included in it, but i want to take that out of it and just focus purely on legs. So my question is, do you think it will be okay if i do the routine as written (minus the deadlifts) and instead take the deadlift day out of the 5/3/1 program and put that day into the routine?

So for example, it will look something like this:
>Upper / lower / rest day / upper / lower / rest day / DL day from 5/3/1

Could this work? Or won't i have enough rest to make progress on my deadlifts, then? I know this may be too much mixing of routines, but i'm just looking for a decent and balanced all-round routine for muscle-gain while also still making strength gains on my DL
>>
>>41708931
Just do your deadlifts they're not gonna affect you that much, especially if you do squats first. I mean cmon after deadlifts you have fucking leg press and leg curls.
>>
>>41708974
Yeah but my DLs have stopped progressing a bit once i reached a 1RM of 440lbs, so now i want to find a way to make progress on my DL again without fully switching over to the 5/3/1 routine

Or maybe i should just try out the 5/3/1 BBB template instead..
>>
Tried diddlydoodling in olympic shoes and accidentally increased 5kgs on my deadlift 5rm and it felt easier than the previous week. Finally managed to hold my shin straight I think.
>>
>>41709039
>i should just try out the 5/3/1 BBB template instead..
BBB is great if you need lots of reps for practice, and if you lack mass.

Otherwise, you'd be much better off just pulling lots of submaximal deadlifts. If hypertrophy isn't the issue, then just pull more deadlifts. Singles, doubles, triples at 70-90% once per week is fine, as long as your squat is still progressing.

>>
>>41709039
Well 5/3/1 is generally disliked here as it's really mediocre program. Your deadlift is still pretty weak at around 190-200kg deadlift I was just deadlifting twice a week and adding 5kg each weak without much trouble, so maybe just deadlift twice a week and you'll be fine.

I already DL twice a week, but i think my problem is that i don't incorporate some form of deload days or weeks.

I also don't really have a good structure/routine for deadlifting. On tuesdays i always just try and do my 1RM and try a new PR whenever i feel like i'm having a good day, and on fridays i just do some sets of 4-5 reps with about 85% of my 1RM.
>>
>>41709208
I got better with age. Did you?

Also, shave your fucking head. You're an embarrassment.
>>
>>41709102
Also, what kind of sets and reps did you do when you were still deadlifting twice a week?
>>
>>41709209
You pull maximally too often. Save maxing for maxing.

If you want 2 days, then do SLDL's, deficits, or Snatch Grip work for moderate to high reps one day, then speed pulls or regular deads on the second day for singles, doubles, or triples at 70-90%.
>>
>>41709256
Mostly things like 3x6 and 4x8 and variations of that (i.e. 1x6 or 2x8)

It literally feels like he sweet talked him simply to try him into accepting the challenge, KEK.
And Brad's face looks so damn devastated all the time, damn.

Your squats are fine, especially at that weight. You lose some upper back tightness, which can be remedied by pulling down on the bar and keeping your elbows underneath

I did two years of research and a year in industry. I had a verbal offer from the company I was working at but before I graduated they had some projects canceled and didn't have the money for another full time hire. 3.9 GPA, I've learned grades only matter if they're bad. In the last month I've networked into some meetings and interviews in the coming weeks, hoping to get an offer from a few of those. I think more the issue is the modern application process is pretty much a lottery, either through getting lucky being picked out of 500 online applicants or lucky through knowing a guy who happens to know the right person. I think both avenues towards employment do a poor job at screening for talent.

Just coming back from a month off from squats, had knee issues. Not sure what it was exactly, it may have been tendinitis (does that clear up that quickly?), or something else. What can I do to maintain knee health now? Don't want another lay off.
>>
/plg/,

i'm having trouble figuring out optimal low bar squat depth (for general strengthening, not powerlifting, go ahead ban me niggas). i know that hips below knees is a sacrosanct tenet that has to be checked off for every single rep, but in the past year of low bar squatting i've developed more flexibility in my adductors, hamstrings and glutes than i had previously. this has resulted in my bounce off those muscles happening at a deeper and deeper position, and now i'm worried that it's getting too low. going just beyond parallel activates no stretch whatsoever and so i have to plunge further down (while still remaining tight, i'm very careful never to loosen anything up) in order to find the stretch.
>>
>>41711450
If you're training for general strength squat as deep as possible. Bigger ROM= more gains.

>>41711644
iunno man, if it involves more muscles and heavier weights then why wouldn't it be best?

the only thing rippetoe has me convinced of is that low bars are better for general strengthening, as vague a term as that is
>>
>>41711644

There's NO(none) significant difference in muscle activation between highbar and lowbar you fucking dingus.
>>
>>41711657
Different anon but I disagree with you. High bar is better for general strength. Chad Wesley smith likes to say high bar is for building strength and low bar is for displaying strength.
>>
>>41711669
Even more reasons to squat high bar if you're not powerlifter
>>
>>41711669
what does this even mean? after you do a set of low bars and a set of high bars, you feel the effects differently - during low bars, my hams, glutes and groin tire first whereas during high bars my glutes and quads are the first to go (and i never feel my hamstrings).
>>
>>41711683

As a powerlifter you should do whichever allows you to move the most weight, which will probably be lowbar.

As a recreational lifter you should do whatever is comfiest for you.
>>
>>41711683
>same activation in muscles
>picks lift with lighter weights
do you have two mommies?
>>
>>41711700
>same activation in muscles
>picks lift with less rom
Do you?
>>
>>41711689

Hamstrings don't contribute a significant amount of movement to any squat.

Quads are maximally challenged at the bottom of any relatively heavy squat, and will work to their maximal effort to move whatever weight.

Glutes are also prime movers in the squat, but their activation doesn't change between lowbar and highbar. The reason lowbar moves more weight is because your glutes are in a more advantageous position leverage wise to move the weight.
>>
>>41711733
i don't understand why any of that explains why sets of high bars and low bars feel different during, immediately after and days after performing those lifts

I am an unironic retard. An actual special education child.
I made it into uni for engineering just barely.
1st semester my average was 55%. Second sem average was 60%. Second year average was 70%, third year average was 80% and my fourth year average is currently 90% after 1 semester.
My undergrad GPA is shit because of this. But I should be able to get a perfect GPA on my masters.
I am constantly learning how to learn, and also working harder.
I have done no extra curricular activities yet, hopefully I can address that in the coming year.

Powerlifting has been a good release for my retard strength though.

Straps are for guys that don't want to learn how to hold the barbell correctly and how to engage their lats during the pull.

Or for guys that are pulling such high numbers that the human skin literally can't keep up. I doubt he's that guy

>>
>>41716848
It's not about high numbers, many people, including myself, have had their hands been torn or extremely painful just from doing enough deadlift volume, it's a necessity sometimes and grip strength and lat engagement have absolutely nothing to do with it.

>>41716924
Straps are never a necessity. They're always something you choose to use to lift a weight that your body couldn't handle.

>>41716991
So you're saying that your grip isn't part of your body?

For every guy that use the straps on their deadlifts, ask yourself a hard question. How much can I barbell row double overhand? How much weight can I add to a chin up? Proper pulling mechanics requires strong lats and grip.
>>
>>41716964
Its fine, ive done it many times
>>
>>41717002
a) wearing straps doesnt affect lat activation b) your grip is a small component and you shouldnt let it affect developing the rest of your body. youre literally wasting your time if you are sticking to weight you can DOH to work grip because its not enough stimulus to develop your back/posterior chain etc
>>
Does the power of a blender matter much for peanut butter and oats etc?

>>
>>41717027
you know you can train your grip easily by just buynig a gripper and doing the grease the groove method

also nobody is saying do double overhand, the guy is just saying dont use straps. Honestly hes right since you arent even close pulling 1000lbs so why neglect your grip
>>

>>41717002
>So you're saying that your grip isn't part of your body?
It is but your skin tearing can cause your grip to be weaker than it actually is

>For every guy that use the straps on their deadlifts, ask yourself a hard question. How much can I barbell row double overhand? How much weight can I add to a chin up? Proper pulling mechanics requires strong lats and grip.

225 for 5x5 and probably could do more, 90 lbs for 5x1. I've double overhanded 405x2 before. Straps aren't only going to be used just because someone's grip strength isn't up to par.
>>
>>41717042
why are you so weak on everything except for the bench
>>
>>41716684
Tbh I'm shooting for 6pl8 by the end of the year anyway, I started lifting in Dec 2015 so it'd be a nice way to mark my liftaversary
>>
>>41717027
Squeezing the bar does indeed recruit your lats better than pulling them on a couple of ropes

If your pulling strength outruns your grip that bad, you're doing something wrong

The only time I couldn't hold onto a deadlift was when I was a newbie pulling weights that were too big for me
>>
>>41717002
It is part of your body, but it is only a part. If your other muscles can handle the lift, why would you limit yourself? All you need to do is make sure you get your grip as good as possible.
>>
>>41717039
you want to develop your posterior chain, so why let grip be a limiting factor? if you want to train grip do it on something other than deadlifts

and pulling mixed for volume is dumb and will give you trap imbalances. if you cant do hook grip then use straps
>>
>>41717075
Good rationale

Why limit your deadlift if your spinal Erectors are too weak? Just round your back, right?

What actually is a torn callus? Is this one because I get them every so often and it leaves a big patch of lost skin but I just ignore it for a few days and it heals
>>
>>41717081
No, that could hurt you. And the equivalent in this situation wouldn't be to round your back, it would be to stiffen it artificially. Which I don't think you should do either, because you'd lose out on the stimulus you use the lift for.
>>
>>41717065
you can still squeeze the bar with straps. infact, its probably easier because if its at the limit of your grip strength its probably going to slip into your fingers

>>41717081
not comparable at all. if your spinal erectors cant handle the weight it will lead to injury or you literally wont be able to move it
>>
>>41717052
Because I'm an arch mage and am probably made to bench

>>41717065
>Squeezing the bar does indeed recruit your lats better than pulling them on a couple of ropes
You've clearly never used straps then because you should still be squeezing it as hard as possible

>>41717079
>Le imbalance may may
It's minimal and actually beneficial to have that tiny imbalance built up to be more resilient against injury when maxing.

>>41717081
That's an awful argument because unlike using straps when your grip doesn't keep up, you're drastically changing your form if you're not already a round backed puller.
>>
>>41717103
Thats what I have, desu. You need to cut the dead skin away and keep it clean
>>
>>41717079
>will give you trap imbalances
is that even true
>>
>>41717103
you should keep them trimmed so they dont rip

>>41717108
idk lad. maybe it varies from person to person, but mixed grip gave me a pretty big imbalance. it affected my bench and squat badly
>>
>>41717081
I think doing sumo would be the fix for weak erectors, well not fix but you avoid the problem that way

I did, that was a couple of days ago, it'll be fine to DL by Monday
>>
>>41717126
maybe some people are more prone to it than others. I couldnt retract my scapula evenly on bench and the bar kept slipping on the left when I squatted
>>
>>41717131
I haven't changed up my grip in over a year and I haven't noticed any difference or imbalances, although I do plenty of symmetrical work when either doing chins, rows, and I used double overhand for deadlifts as long as I possibly can before switching to mixed.

That looks pretty good. Did you put any cream or moisturizer on it while it was healing? Mine is underneath my middle finger.
>>
Guys I'm so fucking tired idk how to fix it. My sleep is inconsistent and I have no discipline.

I'm doing SS, trying to eat enough to recover but I noticed I'm tired and I lose my appetite a lot out of nowhere.
>>
>>41717173
Used some Dove hand cream, I do own a pumice stone and should start filing them a little desu
>>
>>41717079

That's why hook grip is superior

FUCK OF THUMB CHAD REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>
Actually if you not doing meet using mixed grip has no point

just do your warmups and until you can holding overhand without straps, grip starting to fail use straps

most of pro lifters do it like this and you will listen to fat retard instead

https://youtu.be/nPb2nb5IjRY?t=42

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qToGNFMZ14

but you guys should listen to fat retad instead lmao
>>
having a vertigo spell or some shit lads. might have a wank and watch a movie instead of lifting
>>
>>41717213
I honestly only get a little bruising. Everyone should pull hook grip, it really is the best way to pull a deadlift
>>
>>41717263
Hookgrip still slips out of my hand, I can't keep my thumb there not because of pin but my hand won't stay closed :(
>>
>>41717263
check your thumb privilege chad scum. some of us dont have thumbs or fingers long enough to pull hook grip

kys right now
>>
>tfw short arms
>tfw can't rotate enough to do mixed grip
>tfw too short fingers for hook grip
I'm not meant to succeed.

Well, there you go.

Habits are habits. If you're a piece of shit 9 times out of 10, then that's a bad habit.

Start doing things better. Sort yourself out. Clean your room.

Dear lad/ladess

I hope all is well with you and your world
Dropped by to see what shitposting enlightment plg has hit today and left not disappointed

Remember u can do whatever u put ur mind to and you are great!

This picture was taken last year where this old drunk uncle was chilling with two of his lovebirds who was shitting all over the coffee table and eating sunflower seeds, and perching on his shoulder.

They can fly but they don't leave his side, they even sip his beer I wonder if theyre drunk

Ur bird0 girl has been concentr@t1ing on her caREEEEr and has been working hard even though the powerlevel must be constantly hidden and even with very careful articulation of thoughts, sometimes the autistic nature flares up and confuses the normies sometimes.

these days, the pissbird does a shit ton of volume and also ((((Cardio))))

Work sometimes starts at 9 and ends at 5am, but it's enjoyable and it allows me to draw.

I wish you the very very very best in whatever you do because this place has moulded me for what I hope is the better.

bread is dying and there is more things to draw!

tren hard n eat clen always
