I play the cello as part of my college's orchestra (not a music major though). It's pretty fun and there's a lot of single girls, I actually met my gf in it. I don't dedicate certain days to it, but I make sure I practice for an hour and a half at least three days a week
>>
>>41682095
Hiking/camping/bushcraft. Snowboarding. Travelling. Cooking. Curing meats/baking bread. Reading. Cycling.
I try to cycle an hour a day. I generally like to read for pleasure but I think I should start to be more disciplined with it.

I didn't say they would rot your brain. It just makes you enjoy wasting time. I look back on my time with games and think of all the stuff I could have achieved. Playing them with friends and is good for you socially is about the only good thing I can really think for them.

>WAAAAHH ITS BAD TO WASTE TIME
as long as your enjoying the time spent then there isn't a need to stop. Clearly you stopped because you looked back at the time spent on videogames and seen it as a waste but not everyone feels the same way you do about 'wasting time'

I'm a pilot by trade, and I still love flying and do it as much as possible. I also day trade crypto (seriously do this for yourself, you will make ridiculous money), I also make wine. Big into outdoors, do a lot of hunting, hiking, fishing, shooting, rock climbing, camping, and mountain biking. As a pilot, I travel a lot and explore the places I go as much as possible.

But mostly I just shitpost on the fitness forum of a Bhutanese cheese sculpting enthusiasts board about how I don't have a girlfriend.

How does one get into camping/backpacking?

I've been wanting to get out of the house on weekends.

Also, to all the other bros who bake, does anyone have any good rye recipes? I've been doing a pretty basic rye/yeast/salt/water bread, but was thinking about branching out.

People encourage to pick a hobby because the gym is not enough. How is hiking different than going to the gym if hiking is just cardio but outside?
>>
I love learning languages

Currently learning Korean and Russian
>>
>>41683432
Usually you can just search up hiking trails and/or campsites on Google. From there, you'll need to buy requisite gear. For backpacking, you'll obviously need a backpacking backpack. The dudes at REI can help you out, and I'm sure there are a bunch of sources of info online (/out/), but you'll eventually need to try on a couple packs to see what you like.
>>
>>41683767
I go hiking 2-3 times a month because I love the mountains and it's a great feeling being in nature and secluded from civilization. Cardio is the last thing on my mind when I want to hike.

>>
For a year i am kinda thinking of buying saxophone. What say you brehs ? Is it possible to learn it by yourself ? They are also kinda expensive.
>>
>>41683432
If you're just starting off, I would recommend just hiking. Get a pack that you don't mind carry for most of the day. Get some water, and maybe a snack. Wear flexible clothing and running shoes. Keep minimal weight in your pack until you get a feel for things. This is just to start. After this, do whatever you feel is comfortable. For camping, you're going to need a shelter, a way to sleep, and a good pack to carry all of it. There are many ways of going about this and it all boils down to weight, durability, price, and comfort level. Research your options. Also for finding places to go, get the AllTrails app. It's helped me find a bunch of neat places. Going to be trying a bunch of trails as soon as I get less hours at work.
>>
>>41683910
>>41686217
Oh, if you have the money and are going to REI, ask to get fitted for a backpack. They'll set you up with the most comfortable backpack you've ever worn. It's fantastic.
>>
>>41686191

not much anymore. I guess I like to explore new places. I love to hike and watch films, but I don't have anybody to do those with anymore. I do them alone some times but it's just not the same. I've always wanted to go camping but have no clue how to start and wish I had a friend who had experience who could take me with them once or twice but I don't. So that's life.

At least I'm really liftan.
>>
>>41682759
This is the opinion of an immature man. Most elders regret wasting time the most, I imagine this feeling will be amplified for the newer generations when they realize they spend hours on end looking at a glass box in the corner of their rooms.

Video games can be enjoyable at times, but there are millions of things that can better you as a person even if they are wasting time.

That glass box was my friend when I couldn't find any outside or at home. I'm not saying you're wrong, but for a lot of this new generation the games we played served as escapism from bad situations and can make great social outlets. They're not complete wastes of time just because you've not needed them.

No matter what you do, you only have so much time to do it. And the list of things you can do fluctuates with your income, depending on what family you were born into and your opportunities or how intelligent/charismatic you are. Most people will work their time away the vast majority of their life and only get to focus on their few hobbies, usually not enough to make them into anything substantial. And then in the end we all die and are forgotten unless you're part of the elite that advances your nation or our race in some significant way, which I can only imagine you aren't, since you're here arguing about other people's hobbies on a Peruvian basket weaving board.

In the end, who cares? The people who can truly make time "matter" already are. Everyone else just wants to be content in the moment. Which itself is a massively difficult task as well.

Literature/Philosophy, just getting started with this. Unironically following this chart to the letter. I have never really read on my own time before so I'm going through slowly, taking fucking notes and making sure I internalize the information so hard it's as easy as remembering my name.

Fitness, literally brand fucking new. Read the entire sticky last night, tested the movements to get my form to a point where I don't kill myself and I'm going to genuinely start lifting tomorrow.

>Moving away from
Worldbuilding, it's fun as hell but I want to develop decent talent in art and writing before I get started up again. It's painful having ideas and not being able to do anything with them because you weren't willing to put in the effort.

MOBAs, unlike most people who play them I genuinely find them fun, it's just that I won't have the time to really go balls deep anymore since other stuff is more important to me now.

>Want to get into
Traditional Art, so I can improve worldbuilding and shit. I've never made a genuine push for art so I don't know if I'll be able to keep it up enough to get where I want to be. My end goal is to be able to know how to draw a person and have it look reasonably not shit. I've been really put off from this because /ic/ is a shithole outside of the sticky, but all that's there is retards looking for a magic pill that will make them good at art and jaded assholes. I have the supplies ready to do digital art, but I want to learn the fundamentals first.

When I was growing up I thought I was too smart to do anything and that I could get literally anywhere through natural talent. I've finally realized that I might as well have been a low functioning autist with that unbelievably retarded mindset. It was actually the fucking cancerous mcdonalds of video games that made me realize that improvement itself is more fun than success and success will naturally follow improvement. Thank you for subscribing to my blog.

>Worldbuilding, it's fun as hell but I want to develop decent talent in art and writing before I get started up again. It's painful having ideas and not being able to do anything with them because you weren't willing to put in the effort.

my fucking nigga. I also love worldbuilding, and not being great at art/writing is no reason to be trying to move away from it. The only way you're going to improve both is if you practice, so don't give up on something you enjoy just because you don't have the skills to produce it up to your standards

have you thought about writing short stories? or creating a gaming setting for it? I find both are good ways to organize my thoughts on the writing front.

I'm fucking overloaded on ideas and have them all either written down or so firm in my head I can picture them in almost full motion any time I want. Setting it aside is temporary, I want to get good at art so I can give the ideas the proper due they deserve. It's not giving up, but doubling down so I can do things properly and share things that can't be expressed in words or writing. It feels like considering worldbuilding my main hobby over the foundational elements of worldbuilding has stunted and stifled my ability to proceed from the point where I'm at.

I have been able to produce stuff for it, but I want to know how to make more and better stuff, if I don't understand how to bring the ideas into real life then that limits me. I want to make something beautiful.

But you are right, because the I've also been putting it off because the greater whole of the work always feels like it has fundamental flaws in the way I approach things. I can't describe my main setting because I don't want feel locked into shit like "low fantasy" or "high fantasy" and limit the scope and artistic depth of the project. Worrying over whether or not it will be good has killed my ability to make it good. I just have to internalize the fact that deliberately trying to create a magnum opus will only lead to failure; I've invested so much time into worldbuilding that it feels like anything less than total success would be a failure. But I know that's wrong and you're a fucking saint for making me realize that.

Here's a quick draft of a map from a year ago. Perfect realism doesn't interest me in the slightest but the biggest flaw is that in order to make it easy for me to comprehend it the continents look like fucking world of warcraft zones. I'll get working on this shit afterwards.

I never got started on tabletop so I don't really know how to make a game system for it. I've been imagining it like a warcraft 3 style RTS. I think I know what to do now. Thanks m8.

And just for context it is now autism time.

>Tan
Sandyland, needs lots of work. Has a giant unkillable tarasque from space buried under it.

>Dark Green
Based off of east asia. Currently on clouds/floating islands that meet once a year to decide the weather. Also needs a lot of work.

>Yellow
Greek/Roman or some shit, don't have any solid shit for it. People here make religiously change their shape by making clay one with their flesh.

>Light Green
European, thick fucking woods filled with pocket dimensions in every nook and cranny. In some places it gets as dark as the bottom of the ocean due to the thick tree cover. One of the most developed.

>Brown
Sword and sorcery style fantasy. Everything here should looks like it belongs on the cover of a cheesy metal album.

>White
Eastern Europe + caucuses and shit around there. I set up tulpas as being a counterpart to undead except they're souls that were raised before they were born instead of after they died. They look like slenderman if slenderman was a cute girl.

>Pink
Colonial North America, undead, but instead of corpses the vast majority of souls went into inanimate objects like scarecrows, roadkill and loaves of bread. Not individual objects but collections of objects that move around.

>Purple
Modern City, a giant sprawling shithole that designed itself. Architecture is like a mcdonalds playhouse. Almost all of humankind here has been subtly replaced by robots and homunculi by the ruling elite. Deviant art-tier designer babies and the infamous public bathroom maze for all ye who enter here. For reference mainlanders who are even aware of this place consider it less real than we do Atlantis

A pretty obvious flaw should be clear, I'm basing everything off of real world cultures instead of creating my own shit. I'm going to try and cut down on that. I eventually want the overall direction to be dark-souls like, low-ish fantasy that still allows for beings of tremendous power.

I love cinema, always wanted to make movies. Started in high school. Now, 8 years later, I am starting to shoot my first serious screenplay next week with a serious actress. Got the ok to shoot on site so I am stoked. Gonna submit it to festivals when I'm done.

>literature

Always loved reading poetry, philosophy, literature, psychology, critical theory etc. Currently reading;
Faust by Goethe
Ulysses by Joyce
The Ego and His Own by Stirner

I read slowly and savor every paragraph.

>meditating

I don't sit and breathe or recite gods name a million times, but I do practice patience and gratitude and concentration anytime I can. It may seem trivial, but in all my life I have never felt happier as when I was able to be master of my own emotions, responses, thoughts, etc.

I'll stop here. Thanks for reading

I don't hangout on /a/. I recommend taking at least a year in college and/or working through the Genki text books. If you pay for the college classes out of pocket, it's a great motivator to study hard and not fuck around.

I became "real" with myself and decided I didn't want to be a virgin manchild anymore; one who wasted all his free time on hobbies that had little value; hobbies that I did just to pass the time until I die.

The key is to build healthy habits. I record what productive tasks I did during the day in an app (Simple Workout Log) and review it throughout the day as a reminder/motivation. Even though ithe app is used for tracking workouts, I find it valuable to have all my self improvement things in one location. Now my hobbles are just something I just "do" without much thought. I don't want to have a long streak of not doing one of the tasks since it's a sign of failure on my part.

it helps me to look at my life in perspective. I live in one of the richest countries in the world with opportunities that others kill for. My worries are nothing in comparison to citizens in third world countries. I am skilled enough to not have to think about my finances much, if ever. I'd be a retard to not take advantage of my situation. If I don't continue to make myself a valuable member of society, there are a line of people waiting to take my place.

>>41686982
Nope. I am employed in a knowledge field. I only work when things go FUBAR. I am being paid to shitpost right now.

have stopped lifting temporarily while I travel/internship in germany so have an extra hourish a day for hobbies, gains are fading fast. I guess lifting is currently not a hobby of mine then?

I want to branch out or put more time into hobbies but I'm always fucking studying. I hate it, I just want to drop it and become a NEET

Reading, cycling, dancing, going to shows, setting up shows, photography and been trying to get into helping with short films, watching films
I'd say reading, cycling, photography and watching films are what I do the most out of them all.
I read at least an hour a day, cycle everywhere out of habit, photography is a daily thing and I try to watch 2-3 films a week.

But I'm planning on going back to school so I'm probably going to cut back on the films so I can study in preparation.

Guitar, BJJ, lifting, learning about psychology/philosophy.
Besides lifting I just go through peaks of motivation and troughs of disillusionment.
Random spurts of energy like I haven't picked up my guitar in weeks and I learnt 3 songs over the last 2 days

Spend a huge amount of time playing the guitar. At first I did it because none of my friend did it, and it made me stand out and I impressed people. It was a pretty good feelinh desu.
But then I stopped giving a fuck about what other people think and started playing for my own pleasure(just like you should only lift for yourself) and it became infinitely better.

Whatever you do, do it for yourself!

Lifting, climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, and shitposting on an egyptian snake charming forum.

I climb for like an hour a day if I'm not working a lot, mountain bike for 1-2 hours a week, and run a kayaking pool session once a week.

I'm 25.

Do man shit. Here is a list of shit you need to do within the next month, alright?

>Throw out 5 pieces of old clothing that you haven't worn in a while
>Change your cars oil
>Take a piss outside
>Hammer some nails
>Leave a generous tip for no good reason next time you eat out
>Go fishing
>Buy some new tools
>Enjoy a cigar or smoke a cigarette (I hope you don't smoke regularly)
>Go have a beer with some friends at the bar and watch sports
>Go drink beers with friends while playing outdoor sports
>Learn how to drive stick shift
>Go hiking and climb a mountain/rock/tree etc
>Ask for a pay raise
>Go kayaking or canoeing
>Approach attractive women, tell them they are beautiful and then immediately walk away
>LEARN TO BECOME OUTCOME INDEPENDENT AND REALIZE THAT "THE JOURNEY" AKA YOUR IMMEDIATE ACTIONS ARE WHAT COUNTS
>>
>>41696274

>hurr piss outside and hammer nails, SO MANLY

>>
>>41696274
>>Leave a generous tip for no good reason next time you eat out

I do this and so do the people I hang out with, for some reason the money/tip doesn't mean much when you're rich and we just leave a fat tip when we leave, it isn't the money that counts we enjoy grabbing a good bite to eat somewhere...
>>
>>41696274

I don't understand why people are sperging over video games

The vast majority of hobbies don't help you to improve in any way.

You're starting to sound like those nofap losers who have dropped masturbation and now claim some sort of enlightenment. Newsflash, if you let video games consume all your time, it just means you are mentally weak, and will most likely succumb to something else when you decide to stop playing.
>>
>climb 2x a week
>cycle/swim/run atleast once a week each
>surf maybe every fortnight
>gardening, but not as often as I'd like
>cooking, baking, homebody shit
>starting to convert a van into a stealth camper

Lifting is more of a chore, but I do it twice a week as benefits for other sports are too beneficial to ignore.

Hiking. Just got out of a shit relationship so I've been going a lot more lately and it feels good to get out and finally see the outdoors. I've lived in SoCal for just over 3 years and never really went out to enjoy all that there is to see until a few months ago.

>shooting
I have a pretty large gun collection. I try to go shooting once every month to the indoor range and once every 2 months to my friends hunting camp to shoot.
>archery
I recently got into it after watching a Joe Rogan podcast. I snagged a nice recurve bow for 200 bucks and practice in the early morning in my backyard as the sun comes up. The meditative gains have been solid.
>reading
I usually read 2 to 3 chapters a day. During my lunch hour and before bed. My book collection is starting to get pretty respectable. Actually made an autistic tier card catalog of all my books that has 870ish entries last time I checked.
>video games
I limit myself to really only playing on Saturday and Sunday mornings and only if I feel I have maximized my productively during the week. I still really enjoy them.

I'd like to learn a musical instrument one day but honestly don't think I could find the necessary amount of time to become proficient.

I REALLY want to get into mountain climbing but I have no idea where to start...
