Some stoic stuff sounds good, man.
Don't want to sound bitter but I think people want to see the successful fail, probably out of resentment and jealousy.
They want to see the underdog rise so they can imagine themselves as the underdog, but then, once they realize that they don't have the strength to fight their way up the chain, they want to see them fail to justify their own failures.

Just started Atlas Shrugged and so far, I don't understand why people tend to dislike it or bash it.

stoicism is appealing to some people because it is a ready-made life system. someone has done the work of painting a forest for you. but to live that way requires bracketing out most of the meaningful questions in life. there's nothing wrong with that, but you only live once. stoicism is a good starting point so that when you decide to take look at the trees for yourself, and then later create your own forest, you can see how easy it is for people to never get past the first step. mostly out of fear, anxiety and laziness. even the most right-wing facist traditionalists like evola had to break everything down to build it up for themselves - accepting someone else's 'thou shalt' will always be weak and inauthentic. /blogpost
