Met a farmer once. He had a bulging belly but his body wasnt flabby at all. He looked like he worked (out) hard but only did manual work.
Another time a fat literal grandad helped open a stuck window of a van from the outside with nothing substancial to push against. While skinny (yet considered healthy) me being in my "prime" pushed at it like a 13 year old gril with no effect.

Strength is like a skill and muscles are a force multiplier for your strength. Building strength is making more of your muscle fibers fire off when you use them. Hypertrophy just makes those fibers bigger and thus able to do more work with the same amount of fibers used.
