I'm just blown away at how much body composition matters.
My knee jerk reaction to OP was that he was lying about his stats.
He appears to be more overweight, than what his stats indicate.
I found the same to be true for other posters here too.
I think this disbelief came from comparing his body to mine, and for some reason, something isn't matching up to my idea of what certain stats should look like.

Obviously the guy is carrying a lot of fat.
You can see that primarily by the fat deposits around his waist and his chest.
My dude, you may want to cut more. Your man boobs have a solid shadow under them.

You can tell there is an obvious difference in body composition.
This tattoo'd dude has a much lower level of body fat.
You can make out the outlines of his abdominal muscles and he has an Adonis belt.
I can also tell his muscles seem to be more developed. His trapezius muscles look larger, and his arms (deltiods and biceps especially) seem more developed.
Is this because he has larger muscles, or because he has less fat to cover up his muscles?
Probably both.

Strangely, even though he has a solid 50 lbs (22.7 kgs) on both the tattoo stud and OP, he isn't in the same league as the OP.

I'm not sure if the picture he provided was of him at his heaviest or a current pic.
Either way, if he is 250 lbs (113.4 kgs) in the picture provided; then he looks comparatively worse than the loincloth warrior who is the same weight.
He is carrying much more fat around his waist and his chest (read: man boobs)
(I love my fatties, and I have faith in your continued progress big-nips; but you gotta cut more. Those boobs will go down with more weight loss.)

Or is it because he has higher body fat levels?
Or perhaps it's because his muscles are not as developed as the loincloth warrior?

He probably is carrying a higher percentage of body fat, and has smaller muscles.
But then again, what about height?

My assumption is that taller people can carry more fat than a shorter person, and look comparatively similar.

Difference in height vs. Ability to store more fat, and look comparatively the same as a shorter person.

So I look to myself.
I'm 6'3" (190.5 cm) and 242.6 lbs (110 kgs).
So I have 42.6 lbs (19.3 kgs) on OP.

But I think I have identified 6 factors that we can track, to normalize all the differences in our appearances.

1. Body position ( relaxed or flexed. Good posture or slouched over, etc.)
2. Camera angle.
3. Lighting.
4. Body fat level (as a percentage of total body weight)
5. Muscle development (measured in size)
6. Height ( referring back to the difference in height vs. comparative ability to store more fat and look similar...I guess you can call this "proportions")
7. Personality (Just kidding. You can't fuck personality.)

How we adjust for these factors in a quantitative way... seems to complex for now.
Just some of my thoughts, take it or leave it.


Oh, also, something people might not be aware in the differences between all these pictures, is point 3: Lighting.
Here is a comparison picture I made of myself at age 23, and age 27.
As you can see, besides my fall from my former physical fitness, lighting can play a huge role in appearance.

I took the bottom picture with high contrasting down-lighting (trying to match the lighting from the pic 4 years earlier).
And even though I am heavier in this picture than now, compared to this one posted here >>41657164
I look much better.

You can see the lighting has a dramatic effect.
Also, It's hard to gauge solely the lighting's effects, because of point 1: Body Position.
I am flexing in the pictures attached to this post, so that obviously makes me look better than this picture >>41657164 where I'm unflexed.

I am the tallest guy from the pics and I posted unflexed. In fact I have been lifting for years but I am a skeletor underneath my fat.

Notwithstanding points 1-3, in your case I think it boils down to points 4 and 5 ( Body Fat Level and Muscle Development).

First I want to ask you, in terms of self-improvement, what type of world-view is better to have?
Are things outside of your control, or are things under your control?

You can say that other people look better because they carry the weight better. (Putting the cause of your deficits, on external forces).
Or you can look inward and say you aren't doing something right (Putting the cause of your deficits, on yourself).

Of course I don't need to tell you that some things are, of course, outside of your control.
And that you need to have a balance with, practicing acceptance vs. identifying/fixing flaws.

But practice honesty with yourself.
I mentioned that you may have an issue with points 4 and 5; Muscle Development, and Body Fat Levels.
And you mention:

Let's make some assumptions. Provide feedback if you think these are wrong assumptions.
A typical program on average has people lifting 3-4 times a week.
Let's go on the low end, say 3 workouts a week.
A typical year has about 52 weeks.

So a person that is consistent, (key word, consistent) will have: 52 weeks * 3 workouts a week = 156 workouts in a year.
So if a person has been consistently working out for a couple of years they will have completed: 2 years * 156 workouts in a year = 312 workouts total.

312 workouts in 2 years, remember this number.

If an outside observer watched and recorded your workouts, how many workouts would they say you completed in the span of the past two years.
I'm not talking about max testing days, or a day where you fuck around in the gym.
I'm talking about following the program to the best of your ability that day.

I'm too lazy to count calories, I just make sure I eat healthy.

Those include yoga.

I just started drinking at a young age (12) and ended my habits at 24 which may have fucked up me in the long term. Not making excuses, just stating as it is.

By looking at you, I have the opinion that you are not consistent in your workouts.
Despite you have been lifting for a couple of years.

I do not doubt that you have lifted weights in that time. But I think when you say that you lifted for a couple of years, it can be misleading.

I can't speak for anyone else, but when someone says they are lifting for however long; I imagine them following a program of some sort.
This may be a fault of my assumption, you are free to decide.

The point is, you need to take a quantitative look, and honestly evaluate yourself. Your honesty will find any flaws, and your force of willpower/discipline will correct those flaws.
Conversely, you have the option to accept your flaws.
Only you can decide, what is worth the effort of your willpower.

Lastly, while on the topic of point 4: Muscle development.
Make sure that you are providing your body with adequate nutrition and rest.
(I will cover nutrition, a bit later)
Ask yourself, if you have been nourishing your body in a way that will help it grow.

I think you should evaluate your consistency, before giving up your control to external forces.

I'm not perfect either by no means. And in the course of typing this to you, I was inspired to take an open account of my consistency.
(Remember 312 workouts in 2 years, is considered consistent training.)

Looking at my past two years:
June 2015 - June 2017

From June 2015 - December 2015 I believe I didn't workout.
I didn't track calories, or do any exercise.
Not anything that I can remember.

From January 2016 to May 2016 I believe I worked out no more than 60 times.
Started to give a shit.
I was very consistent. Working out 4 times a week, full body with a training buddy.
But, I never tracked calories.

From June 2016 to December 2016 I believe I worked out no more than 24 times.
I peaked in my consistency in June, which culminated into a Maximal Effort video:

The later half of the year marked my decline.
I fell off my program by August. I have no excuses.

From January 2017 to March 2017 I believe I worked out no more than 5 times.
These workouts came from my attempt to follow a program like I did the year prior.
Still didn't track calories.
They were done with my old training buddy, and were initiated by his concern of me falling off.

From April 2017 to June 2017 I believe I worked out no more than 10 times.
I started tracking my weight/calorie intake/workouts in April 2017.
And while i started the first two weeks following a program... I fell off the workout program.
However I have not fallen off my caloric restriction.

So in total, I have 99 workouts in the past two years.

Today marks *exactly* two months since I started tracking my weight, and calorie intake.
And I am currently down 20.8 lbs (9.4 kgs) since the start.
I have mentioned to myself several times that i need to incorporate exercise.
Because, I know that in order to achieve my former glory i will need to put in the work.
I made a comment to myself last night while recording my nightly weight loss video that I need to start lifting.
I start Today.

Strength-wise, I've lost much of my strength from last year.

Based on my logs from that time, I was about 285 lbs (129.3 kgs), in that video.
So while my weight has gone down, my strength has as well.

But if I'm being honest, the reason my strength level has went down is not because I have less body mass to leverage against the weights; but really because I have not consistently weight trained since then.

Progress is going well as far as weight is concerned.

Start Weight: 263.4 lbs (119.5 kgs)
Goal Date: November 2, 2017
Goal Weight: 210 (95.3 kgs)
Weight lost so far: 20.8 lbs (9.4 kgs)

I consistently, and meticulously track every calorie I put into my body.
If I can't find out its calorie content, I don't eat it.

And I'm serious about the weight lifting routine.

Not tomorrow.
