It's not starvation, traditional cutting is actually worse. Fasting will put you out for 1-2 weeks in terms of strength but it will quickly be rebuilt, on a traditional cut your strength will only be able to be maintained for 3-4 weeks following the change in metabolic rate, at which point you will have to reduce volume or suffer muscle catabolism. Better to get it done quick so you can be back at maintenance or a surplus as quickly as possible.
