I spent around 6 months sleeping on the floor. Didn't feel all that great on my back, buying a mattress was a big upgrade. Still a back sleeper however.

It's probably safer if you don't leave the bar ravked and loaded with plates above your neck. Some racks have a notch for you to hang the barbell when it's not in use.
