They are a pretty good tool for ab work and offer some progression (not great)
start by doing them on your knees focus on doing them slowly with good form i.e. neutral spine and focusing on abs.
You can also do them at an angle instead of straight ahead to hit obliques a bit.
Progressing from doing them kneeling to standing is really hard though
