"Necessary"?

Only to bring up lagging areas that are holding back your progression on your lifts. (ie. for me, standing leg curls brought up hamstrings that were (apparently) what was delaying my progress).

Go look at a picture of Mehdi. Look at him. He has no arms. It looks so wrong. I used to think he looks great, and now I kinda resent him for making me waste a year on building monster quads and little else.

If by "add accessories" you mean "do a better routine that already has more programmed into it" then yes. Because SL is really kind of a waste of time.

seems good. honestly, the obsession about the perfect program especially here is unwarranted. Consistency is key. If you have been lifting for more than a 1-2 years, the first few weeks will seem totally irrelevant.
Learn the compound movements, go regularly, eat better, sleep enough. You will see improvements. And whether you do bicep curls after SL or not is your choice, and doing 3 sets after you're done deadlifting wont hurt you as much as Mehdi indicates.
Important is that you keep lifting.

It's a strength program with excessive focus on squats. There's no denying that you'll get good at squats, but you won't get good at the other lifts with such little volume.

At a minimum everyone doing SL should add chin-ups, dips and bicep curls.

I've ran SL for almost 9 months and I can tell you that squatting 5x5 before doing other lifts will drastically reduce your capacity for those lifts.

I think it is necessary to add accessory to strengthen your weakest link. After all this is why you should be hitting the gym, to eliminate weaknesses.

If it is your chest - add dips
If it is your back - add chin-ups (but after deadlift, not before)
If it is your legs - add bulgarian squat (inb4 too much work for legs - I call bullshit, I squat 3 times a week and then afterwards I always do bulgarian squat)
If it is your bicep - yep, you guessed it, add some curls.
If it is your calves - sorry, no training calves unless you're a fag
