Alright /fit/ I'm looking to get a side gig going on and I am thinking of becoming a personal trainer. It seems like a pretty easy way to earn a couple bucks on the side and a way to possibly learn something along the way.

Have any of you gotten your personal trainer certificate or are a personal trainer?

If so who did you go through and was it worth it and what have you done with it?

Also, /fit/ side gig general?

fucking women.

Top kek. For real though wtf are they doing
>>
>>41537382
Prime example of why PT's are a joke, literally don't know shit and their 'training' is a couple of weeks if that depending on country/institution. Whatever you see PT's doing is usually a good indication of what you shouldn't do.

That is kind of what i though, but what if there was one who would preach the gospel of the sticky and bring natty gains to the masses.

Or do normies crave shitty coaching from PTs?
>>
>>41537761
Like most generalised statements mate, I don't mean every PT is retarded, just the majority. There are certainly PT's who are informed but they are the minority.

Normies in my understanding prefer to 'feel tired/on the endorphin high' after exercise more than see actual progress. They are also typically overweight so need idiot PT style training of supersetting everything with low resistance and no week-week progress so they are sweating, feel better about themselves, aren't too sore the next day and don't feel like they have to learn or think by being taught proper form, progressive overloading, diet etc. Normies hate the idea of paying someone to train them and then have part of that time spent resting/listening to guidance on their lifts/technique. It's a lot easier to shut the brain off, feel good/sweat and just do a thousand crunches (for dat 6pack) between walking lunges and push ups or whatever other retarded mini-circuit is the latest craze.

An actual progression where they have to work harder each week sounds horrible to them, easier to walk out with a smile, not work too hard and then go back to blaming everyone else for why they have no 6 pack etc.

Quality response m8. That sums up what I was thinking about your casual gym goer who would get a PT.

Have you become one, worked with one or have a desire to become one?

Checked

I always assume when someone on here offers a compliment it is sarcastic...

Just got one recently (like first session recently) at a new powerlifting gym (goodbye commercial shit) who's a weightlifting specialist as I'm shitty with my form breakdown when I get heavier on squats. Probably premature to judge him too much but initial session seemed good. Personal preference, I just like how ATG looks so that's how I squat and want to be better at it moreso than low bar and move more weight. Not competitive, purely lift as hobby.

Not one myself, no desire to ever become one. I'm post grad geologist, I'd be taking half the money and giving up almost 7 years study if I were to change careers now.

If you have the money and time to go get a personal training qualification or certificate, then yes go for it.

Are you friendly, good at communication with people? If yes, go for it.

Are you good at teaching people things, or showing them how to do something? If yes, go for it.

Are you good at explaining stuff to people in a way that they can understand? If yes, go for it.

Are you in good shape yourself? Do you look fit? If yes, go for it.

Some things to keep in mind... Depending on where you work as a personal trainer, every place is different. Some gyms will hire you as a personal trainer, but you will have to pay the gym a fee to work there, or they might take a certain percentage of your profits. Sometimes you can be left with not really earning much, and the gym is basically cheating you.

Or sometimes, a gym will hire you, and they assign clients to you, and they might give you bad clients, and save all the good ones for the other trainers...

Also keep in mind, personal training is super flaky. You will find it hard to get new clients, keep them on. Most clients stop after 1 or 2 sessions. They find it hard to stay motivated.
Also so many clients will pull a no show on you, and it sucks when you get to the gym at 6am waiting for a session, and they don't show...

But all this being said, some people make very successful popular personal trainers, it honestly just depends.

Good luck

Also... What is becoming very popular is online training.
This can be an easy way to get clients if you have a lot of followers on instagram, youtube or a blog. Also easier, since all communication is via email or Skype, so you don't actually have to go to the gym with them.

Thanks brehs, I appreciate the feedback. I am on my way out of the military and I am working on re educating and retooling myself. I figure while I am trying some new schooling becoming a PT might be a worth while endeavour as a side hustle.

Also, a friendly reminder, we are all going to make it.
>>
>>41539301
As a quick training for side job I think it is a good choice, but as the other anon said make sure you are honest with yourself in regards ability to communicate/enjoy that sort of job and also to look fit. There is a huge supply of PT's in Aus and not as many clients so your experience may be good, may be not so good - it'll probably depend on the gym you're at and your ability to keep clients coming back to you.

gl with the career change mate, did it myself and isn't all easy but is pretty fucking fun having a broad background.

Thanks m8, it should be an interesting experience.

To further broaden things out, I have also though about pursuing yoga teacher training. I have always found yoga to greatly complement barbell training. For some reason though i feel like there isn't too many yoga teachers that frequent /fit/.

Yes, thats horrible form, also lifting the chin up like that is bad.
