Does anyone actively/previously carry extra weight on their bodies during everyday activities? For example, I'm a university student considering slipping a dumbbell in my backpack to make it heavier as I walk around campus. At the same time, I've heard this is more harmful to your body, such as wrapping weights around your ankles.
tl;dr: Carrying extra weight in your bags/body parts, yay or nay?

Yay. Angle and wrist weights are good, but a weight vest under your clothes is fucking golden.
Had a fitness instructor in the army who kept in shape that way. Always carried around 15 kilos on his body wherever he went.

Good way to fuck your knees up

No it's bad for your body. Why not just follow an exercise routine of you want to look better/ be stronger?

Only if you're running a lot.

This knees meme needs to fucking die.
Apparently everything from a light stroll to a backpack will now fuck up your knees, nevermind that homo sapiens are specialised to be long distance runners.

I do lift and run everyday, but I guess I'm just looking for something more. I live in the city so I don't have much opportunity to go hiking or anything like that, and I walk a good amount around my college anyways.
ok goku

Your routine isn't intense enough if you can lift and run everyday and still have every for something more. What are you trying to accomplish with this weighted walking bs? It just seems unnecessary and likely to cause more harm than good. What are your goals and your current routine?
Don't mean to sound aggressive if I do, this is how I'd respond if a friend asked me :)
I'm a hard drug using fuck up homeless construction worker and carry a backpack with water and tools in it everywhere I go. I thought at first I'd make some gains, but carrying a pack everywhere makes you lean forward which makes your hips tight which makes you impact the ground harder which fucks up your knees, so stay in school and don't do it.
Yes I use weighted clothing to condition my body for the upcoming World Martial Arts tournament.
