Sounds like something a lazy person would invent to make themself feel superior.

If you're a vegan, you're an orthorexic.
If you're a trap, too, no surprise. Lots of mental illnesses go together.
>>
Well I draw the line when my macro counting affects all my other areas in live. For example if I don't go out every out it's fine but if I decline every social gathering because of fear of getting too much calories from the alcohol then I'd say that's fucked up.

Generaly speaking I think it's not that hard to find moderation and it's not worth discussing or a whole fully replied thread.

A disorder is so named because it impacts one's ability to lead a normal and functional life.
This means that in theory it is possible to be so obsessed with being healthy in a particular way that it impedes a person's life, but like anorexia it is a rare extreme.

I can totally see it being used as a justification for >>41476199 though.

This

>Oh Gawd ANON you're such an orthorexic eating broccoli and chicken all the fucking time!
>*takes a bite of cheeseburger*
>I just don't get how you can live with such a pathetic and disgusting eating disorder
>*inhales candy bars*
>And going to the gym all the time! It's like you live there teehee at least I get out and socialise with people!
>*snorts sugar*
>>
>Symptoms of orthorexia nervosa include obsessive focus on food choice, planning, purchase, preparation, and consumption; food regarded primarily as source of health rather than pleasure

If you regard food as health rather than pleasure you now have a mental disorder but wanting to lob off your dick and balls and replace with a festering gash is perfectly healthy and normal.

This.

Sounds more like a modern syndrome of some kind of obsessive compulsive disorder. Or some phobia.

But there is no doubt in my mind, that this will catch on as yet another pathologization of leading a healthy lifestyle.
>>41476258
Nah, it would have to adversely effect your life and cause you distress.
Otherwise being a very tidy person would be considered OCD.
>>
>>41476175
As long your not actually putting yourself in danger or your physiological well being is put under significant amount of stress you don't have orthorexia
>>
>>41476175
It's a basically a form of OCD that manifests as an eating disorder.

The term doesn't cover people who abstain from alcohol/drugs/coffee/tea/junk food, weigh their food, use MyFitnessPal, prefer to buy organic, and choose whole grain over white bread.

The term covers people who will go into a bathroom to puke up some fruit if they find out it isn't organic or has 2g extra sugar than they're allowed to have in a day, or who have to eat the same thing everyday at exactly the same time down to the minute, or who avoid social interactions altogether because they may eat something they shouldn't, or who won't walk into a bakery because they may inhale cake particles.

*ding*

It's the difference between clinical depression and feeling sad. Or the difference between being kinda moody and full blown borderline. Any diagnosis of mental illness really requires it to be having a marked, negative, effect on your life.

>>41476199

Yeah but idiots like these self-diagnose themselves and others with anything they can hashtag. God knows how many people are running around with self-diagnosed food allergies that mysteriously vanish when it's something they want to eat. Such is the nature of the world, and the nature of humanity.

Q: How do you tell who in the room is a vegan?

A: You don't. Just wait, and the narcissistic motherfuckers will all announce it to everybody.
