I use machines for everything but hammer curls. Should i move on to free weights? Ive avoided them due to feeling unconfident in my form and in front of mirrors.

Yes. The movement is much natural, you'll avoid imbalances and your gains will skyrocket. Learn to do compounds with proper form, start light and give it a try. Come back in a few months to thank me

Machines CAN help build muscle but its way slower. I did machines for 3 months, starting at 5/10kg because i was weak as fuck and managed to get to 40/50kg in working sets before moving to dumbells / barbell, realising I could only curl 10kg and similar for other exercises and cut out machines completely.

Now 6 months later after that and after testing the machines again for a laugh im close to maxing all the machines in the gym (85-90kg) with relative ease.

Its much better to do free weights in my experience.

If you've never done any kind of physical activity before you'll notice some differences on machines, yeah. What I said to OP still applies, though. Ideally you should get on free weights and compound movements as soon as you can, it's actually even better if you start with low weight cause you'll train your form. Hope that answered your question. Oh and being male or female makes no difference and don't believe anyone who tells you otherwise, the differences are all just about your goals

It's cool to use machines, but free weights will generally be better for you as an athlete. No difference if you're a girl or a dude.
