Squat in a power rack with safeties and always keep your back as straight as possible - arching your back prevents you from rolling the bar off in the case of failure.

there is a reason any good PL routine includes hypertrophy work, and there's a reason powerlifters often have hypertrophy phases when they don't have a meet coming up - increasing the cross sectional area of a muscle will increase the contractile force that muscle can produce

Unrelated question but why don't weightlifters train the same way? It's mostly 3 reps at most per set. Not a lot of hypertrophy. Doesn't more muscle mean more power?

Doing 20 rep squat won't make you better at squatting 1RM for competition. Also you can't get strong without getting bigger muscle, and vise versa.

A person doing SS and reaching a 2 plate bench 1rm at the end of the program will be much smaller than the guy reaching it through a x8+ routine, albeit in a shorter timeframe if done right.

Powerlifters include accessories for size, which increases their main compounds. Same with olylifters. A gym rat doing brosplit only will be bigger than a SS-trainee with the same lifts in 99/100 cases
