I have my first triathlon (sprint) coming up in a couple months. Been training the bike portion on a stationary bike and I'd like to get a road bike to use for the race. Anyone have recommendations on a cheap first time bike my poor ass can buy?

Try to buy one that has a light frame (I think it's aluminum?) and also make sure it has a good mechanism for shifting gears (Shimano gearbox for example). Braking system doesn't make that much of a difference (V-brakes are just ok). Also buy one that has only front suspension. Additional things like bike legs, lights, speedometers, bells.. are imo unnecessary and just drive the price up.
Cheaper bikes always have heavy frames and absolutely total garbage transmission and brakes. So I would recommend buy a basic bike with things I mentioned above for about 300-400$ and you won't regret it. That's how I see it. Pic related is my old bike (400$)
OP here. Thanks for the info guys. Do you think I should go to a bike shop and get fitted to a bike also? Never really had one as an adult and I read on forums that that's really important?
