why is /fit/ (and the internet in general) always full of people claiming they reached 1/2/3/4 easily only after 6 months, but whenever I go to the gym (I've been to like 10 different ones over the last 6 years) I rarely see anyone lifting these numbers or above, and if they do, they are usually gym veterans with many years of lifting experience

basically, go to the gym, and 1/2/3/4 is pretty impressive and rare, even among big guys
go on the internet, and 2/3/4/5 is average (with no evidence backing up any claim of course) after 1-2 years

It's just the way the board works bro, you gotta let the lies get to your head and change your perception of reality. Let them make you think that you should be doing this in 6 months, and soon enough we'll have a generation of autists that lift 2/3/4/5 for reps.
>>
I'm at 1/2/3, 20lbs away from 4. Been lifting 9 months and that included starting with just the bar on SL5x5 and I recently cut for about 6 weeks where I didn't progress. 6 months seems feasible desu.
>>
>>41405465
It took me about 1.5 years to hit 1/2/3/4, 2 years to get reps at that weight, and at 3 currently I'm at 1.5/2.5/3.5/4.5, yeah my programming is probably shit but I consider myself to have progressed pretty averagely

People lie when they're anonymous. It's one of the reasons this board is so shit, but anonymity is also the good part of 4chan, so you have to be smart and take the good with the bad.

Bottom line is, you need to figure out who is bullshitting and who is giving genuine feedback and advice. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference.

not that poster but I started with a 1pl8 OHP, stronger shoulders from wrestling in high school desu
>>
>>41405465
because
>normies just go to the gym to feel good about themselves, the few that do work out only care about arms
>3/4 of /fit/ posters don't even lift and just come here to shitpost, but the other 1/4 is dedicated autists
Six months is a bit of a stretch, but 1/2/3/4 is easily achievable within a year if you're following a decent beginner program, eating and sleeping right.
>>
>>41405465
anon please, why would anyone lie on a mongoloid basket weaving forum. stop being insecure.
>>
Because the ones you're looking at are capable of lifting heavier, but choose not to. I know a bunch of guys who can lift big weights, but they work in higher rep ranges at lower intensities because it's simply easier that way and just as effective for hypertrophy, if not for strength.

The guys like me, who push decent weights (currently 2/3/4/5) but aren't huge aren't the ones you look at because we're unimpressive in gyms compared to the mass monsters. You only look when I load up my 2pl8 OHP and bang it out for a triple. Otherwise you look at me the same way you look at any other decently big but not freakishly huge guy.

>135lb ohp after 6 months is impossible
I'm at 110 after 2 months. I don't see another 25lbs taking 4 months
>>
>>41405874
>I'm at 110 after 2 months.
Sure thing Kevin
>>
>>41405465
I started high and got there in a few months (like 3 or 4). Basic math should tell you such a thing is very rare. I've had a slew of weird problems over the years tho.

>>41405725
I think this is a fair portrait of average but progressing.
