It was a huge deal that he didn't win I think.

Most of the literary establishment thought he deserved it but he never got it. I think it had a big impact on Mishima himself. Might of even contributed to him deciding to lead a coup; if he couldn't go down in history as a nobel prize winning author then he was gonna go down in history as the last samurai fighting against the modern world.

Basically the dude was fucked up, but then again most great artists are.
