Whats the general consensus on veganism? I hear people say they felt much better physically after having this sort of diet so I'm intrigued to try it out. Been feeling like shit for several years now (exhausted, no energy, etc.) and I'm tired of feeling that way. Don't want to go on anti-depressants so I'm trying everything out. I workout about 3 or 4 times a week. I like steaks, chicken, milk but i'm willing to give it all up. So any experiences or thoughts?
>>
give up the milk, keep the chicken, go easier on the steak. pork is your friend.

as for veggies just eat broccoli everything else isn't worth your time.

why do you think chicken and broccoli is a mainstay of healthy diets?
>>
>>41334608
go vegan bro the science confirms it as being more beneficial than a regular diet to ur health
>>
Stop masturbating so much. It's just drug abuse. You basically OD on endorphins. You get used to the huge high an orgasm gives. You can't enjoy little things anymore and get depressed.

Also, start meditating.
>>
But whats so bad about meat that makes people that were not originally vegs stay away from it? Other than the fact that its probably jacked up with hormones and shit
>>
>>41334608
Do it for science, but do come back with results on fit. Also, once you got to that stage of being vegan, try out meat again for science. Fuck full veganism though.
>>
>>41334644
for any animal product, that is
>>
>>41334608
hahahahahaha

>>41334643
LMAO
>>
Everyone's different. Try it and see how you feel. Worst case scenario it does nothing but you help the environment and animals for a while.

I tried veganism (lets call it a plant-based diet) and I honestly found a lot of success.I ended up sticking with it for about 5 years. I went back to eating normally for a year and a half after that and ended up switching back cause I felt kind of sluggish and generally low-energy.

I've heard of some people feeling kind of run-down during the first week or two of a switch to veganism, but after that you feel consistently great. Just make sure your nutrition is sound. Y'know, lots of fruits and veggies and shit. Nutrient dense foods.

As long as you're on top of your meal composition, you'll feel awesome. It takes some time to learn the ropes of a plant-based diet, especially when you lift. Once you get your "meat and potatoes" down though, like anything, it becomes second-nature. Just learn to cook and you'll be just fine.
>>
>>41334644
There is nothing beneficial,
It contains no antioxidants, phytonutrients, and is inflammatory, is high in saturated fats and cholesterol, contains heme iron which causes inflammation and cancer, spikes insulin
If you compare that to a plant source just as beans it is the complete opposite, for example
Black beans are high in fiber, low in fat, extremely high in antioxidants and phytonutrients, are anti-inflammatory, cause no blood sugar spike

Not only is it what is in meat, but what you are missing out on if you replaced that meat with something like beans
>>
>>41334873
Not OP but I plan going vegan after I move out from home with my mom. Any good websites or meal plans you'd recommend?
>>
Its legit. Since making the switch I feel way more energy (probably cause of all the carbs), also my shits have never been better. Another thing I realized is just how overrated proteins are. Been eating around 100 g a day and Im making progress just fine (and Im also in a cut). I cringe just thinking about all the chicken and whey I used to eat just to reach 200+ g of protein. All in all though I definitely recommend it
>>
How much weight do you think someone can lose with this diet without exercising too much? Say i'm about 5'6 and weigh 135. Goal weight is 115.

I would eventually start exercising but I work at a hospital and on my days off I mostly sleep (I have 12 hour shifts) so right now i'm holding off on the gym until I can adjust to my schedule.
>>
>>41334921
Meal plans? Nah. You could pretty much adapt any meal plan you find to be plant-based by substituting animal products with plant ones. If you've gotta crunch some numbers to figure out macronutrients, calories, etc. you'll be better off for it. You'll have your diet calibrated in your head and it'll be that much easier for you to be consistent yet flexible with your diet moving forward.

For example: instead of chicken breast, have some tofu (again, this requires some cooking know-how. tofu fucking rocks. don't believe the lies about phytoestrogens. do your research if you need peace of mind)

Since you'll probably be eating fewer calories by volume on a vegan diet, you can eat MORE FOOD. So instead of brown rice and broccoli, maybe rice and beans (already a complete amino acid profile), a veggie side, and some main protein component (like tofu, tempeh, seitan)

Some good resources to get the ball rolling are:
veganbodybuilding (kinda general. kinda preachy)
veganproteins (for supps. lots of freebies when you order)
veganessentials (lots of harder to find vegan goodies when times are tough)
postpunkkitchen (for bomb-ass recipes and cooking tips)
olives for dinner (really fucking awesome recipes if you like to cook. also a good place to pick up tips and ideas for food/flavor combinations to keep your diet varied)

And google. Lots of google. Hope that helped my dude
>>
>I hear people say they felt much better physically after having this sort of diet

Placebo effect. People expect to feel better, so they do. It's nutritionally baseless, but I'm an outcome-oriented person, so I encourage you to convert if you're absolutely convinced it will help you.
>>
>>41335008
Thanks m8. Godspeed
>>
>>41334933
>how overrated proteins are
Honestly, when you think about it, protein powder is a scam.
>>
>>41334608

Went vegetarian for 2 weeks
Got gassy, lost weight (despite eating an extra meal a day) lost gains & lifts went down.
Aside that everything else seemed normal, genuinely think it's a meme.
But if it works for you go for it senpai
>>
>>41334608
I was a vegan for two years, admitted eggs to my diet so now I'm vegetarian I guess. I felt no different after changing, same lack of energy.

Biggest downside worth mentioning is that getting all your protein and calories without getting suicidal thoughts for any extended period of time is a nightmare unless you want to guzzle powder or get massive amounts of soy. Just go vegetarian, introduce yourself to almond milk, vegan mayo, and vegan butter and see how you feel after a while. Don't have to start with a leap into veganism, just start swapping animal products for vegan products and see what sticks.
>>
>>41335079
Definitely agree. The fitness "experts" really did a good job brainwashing us into thinking you need 200+ protein in order to grow to push their BS supplements
>>
>>41334608
i went vegan, it made life alot easier. I just did it for health, and fitness. Now im in way better health, and im ripped all year with no effort. But i dont do cheat meals, food tastes better than it ever has so no need.
>>
>>41334608
veganism is only good for getting rid of acne
>>
it's good just take a b12 bill and if you live in dark cold shithole take a d3. everyone should take a d3. i wouldn't obsess over having everything vegan all the time on holidays you can still eat whatever but usually i bring my own thing like sweet potato salad because everything my family
makes isn't even good it's canned fat people food.
>>
>>41335120
how much protein did you try to get? i get around 90-150 easy and that's all i really need.
>>

I would go vegan but I already have to force myself to eat at least 2 times a day (5 in total) and drink mass gainer to gain mass. I would have to eat like 10 times a day on a vegan diet to gain some mass.
>>
>>41335175
150 for awhile, down to 100 more recently.

Four scoops of powder got me 40, rest was usually solved by an uncomfortable amount of beans or pasta, and then I calorie filled with potatoes later on in the day.
>>
>>41335273
>drink mass gainer to gain mass
PEANUT BUTTER
CMON
WHATEVER IT TAKES
1 jar of peanut butter, 2-3 times a day. I don't want to hear this "once a day"
CMON
LET'S GET BIGGG
CMOOOOONNN
>>
>>41335384
I already consume peanut butter, but I cant eat whole 1 jar a day, 1 jar costs like 3 euros
>>
>>41335396
Bulk on chocolate, coconut oil and macadamia nuts
>>
>>41334608
>so I'm intrigued to try it ou
Then try it. Cut all meat/dairy for 2 weeks and see if it makes you feel better.

I'm not vegan, I still eat a little bit meat/cheese and occasionally I'll use some eggs but I eat very plant based and I feel very good. I don't think vegan is the best diet but it certainly is vastly superior to the normal western diet.

Aside: I also highly doubt the"milk=prostate cancer" entirely especially when in the article it says:
>Estrone and prostate cancer risk in men: As far as the estrone levels Maruyama et al. measured in their 2010 study are concerned it is very difficult to tell, whether or not the 26% increase in E2 levels is or isn't a problem.
>The estrone values in the Maruyama study are unrealistic. With a normal range of <68pg/ml the subjects in the Maruyama study would have elevated E1 levels to begin with, if the measurement was correct.
>difficult to tell
>unrealistic
and
>What remains to be seen, though, is whether future epidemiological evidence will support or refute the currently heralded hypothesis that dairy consumption increases prostate cancer risk and whether we will be able to identify more feasible explanations for this relations than those that are implicated by the results Maruyama et al. present in their 2010 study.

Only works when compared with the SAD. When compared to the diets of healthy and fit people that include meat and animal products it doesn't even compare.
>>41334643
I know you're baiting because this is the two millionth meme thread on /fit/ and the second one currently filled with pseudoscientific horseshit, probably also from (You); but I'll post this anyway on the off chance anyone actually believes you. I used to love meat, I gave it up because I accepted that it was wrong to eat it when I could sustain myself without it. It's just unnecessary death of sentient beings at that point, and I didn't want to contribute to it any longer.

Do I miss a having a nice juicy steak or a greasy hamburger topped with cheese and bacon? Hell yeah I do. But that's not enough justification to eat it for me anymore.

Once lab grown meat comes into the market, I'll might indulge in it every once in a while, but now I'm too used to a plant based diet to ever return to a 'normal' one

there's lots of beneficial stuff in meat

hm, I wonder why something that starts with "phyto" is not in meat???

cholesterol can be good or bad, it depends on your needs. cholesterol is needed to produce testosterone.

black beans are great, but they do not contain as much protein (and the right proteins) as meat, they don't contain creatine, probably a whole slew of other micronutrients.

No, it's useless to reply because you and your ilk would rather go "la la la can't hear you" at any proper research and science, and evidence of your ideology's pseudoscience presented to you. All of you would rather be willfully ignorant, and worse; try to spread that ignorance with whatever additional bullshit you can
>>
>>41338057
Nothing of what you just posted disproves anything I did. You just proved my point, are ignoring what's presented to you and still doubling down on the memes. Also if you're implying I'm the one who posts the "vegans are deficient in" posts; that's a different anon

I'm training to become a professional triathlete and some people in the aerobic scene treat the vegan diet like god, so I tried it out. In my experience, the only worry about the vegan diet is not getting enough b12, assuming you are doing everything else right. In my opinion, adopting a plant based diet is a very good thing, it will get you eating more fruits and veggs, it wil get you more focused on the food you are eating, and it will be better for you in most cases. I think if you arent' super hardcore, you should eat the stables of a vegan diet, but continue to eat some animal products, like lean chicken, or greek yogurt if dairy doesn't fuck you up. I would say stay away from red meats, and stay away from non nutrient dense foods. Chia Flax Hemp is good for smoothies / oats / rice / yogurt. Fruit is good with everything, and spinich / greens in smoothies is a big help as well.

>>

No, let's not, because "plant-based" implies that it's acceptable to torture and kill animals SOMETIMES as long as you're MOSTLY eating plants. And it isn't.

I don't want to go vegan but I want to eat less meat/fish/eggs etc.
Really don't know what to eat instead though, 99% of my meals contain meat, fish, rice, beans, lentils, eggs or a combination of those.
If I reduce my intake of animal products my diet becomes pretty boring, what are some more vegan "base" ingredients?
