you could never use a barbell in your life and still do fine. barbells usually allow you to lift more in total but recruit less stabilizers than dumbbells do. DB bench and shoulder press are better mass builders than their equivalent BB exercises.

thanks anon :)

You'd be fine. There are exercises using DBs that cover all muscle groups. However, if you're training for strength, you may hit a point where DBs aren't sufficient.

also I'm not that anon but if you want to work legs and glutes which is crucial in sports you should look up Rear foot elevated (bulgarian) Split squats. Some people actually think they're better than regular squats if you can get adjustable dumbbells heavy enough.

piggybacking to ask, is it okay to do dumbbell presses on programs whereby they ask for 4x8 of barbell bench, but I do it on the dumbbell instead? Seeing that the dumbbell is better for building chest.
I still do the 4x4 on the barbell.

I would say still do the barbell, then add the dumbbell as an accessory
Just because dumbbell builds more mass doesn't mean that barbell exercises aren't still superior to pretty much everything else overall

Grew up as Poorfag home gym master race. All I had was a pull bar, 45 pound dumbbells, and the ground. You'll make it bro

Depends on how heavy they are

If you're looking for the gymnist type body, you'll be absolutely A-ok. On the off chance you wanna do powerlifting, go with barbell.
Personally, I hate barbells unless Im doing front squats or incline bench.
