Headaches while lifting

Doesn't happen often, but every few months I start getting blinding headaches as soon as I start lifting. Pain fades after an hour, but comes back as soon as I start exerting. This can last for a few days, which is some unacceptable bullshit.

Any tips on this, and how to avoid it?

Exertion headaches aka tension headaches. Can be caused by tightness in traps or a small muscle that leads down the front of your neck. Honestly only fix is to stretch, take an ibuprofin, and lessen the weight while making a conscious effort to focus on breathing during reps.

I had this BAD when i started lifting, went to the doctor and everything. Most likely its from a weak muscle when youre doing heavier compounds, usually in the traps/neck or upper back. Just gotta push through and keep lifting while keeping good form. It's gone for me so you can make it brah.

I got them when I first started lifting because I wasn't breathing properly I must have been holding my breath. The pain was so bad that even light weight would make my head feel like my bread was splitting in half. I had to take three months off so make sure you breath.

Thanks a lot my dudes, I will try to focus on the breathing especially. Not sure why it comes one sometimes and not others, but it could be something like that. Also, it does tend to come on after I've been lifting heavily for awhile, so it could be overexertion of the neck muscles.

Do you get an aura (wobbling vision around your periphery not new age bollocks) before the headaches start? could be migraines. See a GP Co-codamol could help if you take it a little before training. Stress is a big factor so look at what could be making you stressed

get a professional to deep tissue massage your traps and upper back. yes it will hurt for days after, but it helped me greatly (along with paying attention to breathing and stretching and all that afterwards). my traps were so tense the guy (n-no homo) cursed under his breath while massaging.

also strengthen your neck. not in the meme harness ways, just google some easy calisthenics that use a lot of full body tension and pay attention not to overdo it.

Don't hold your breath when doing heavy compounds. I thought I popped a vessel in my head when doing deadlifts, it was only me not controlling my breath properly
