Starting strength is.not a powerlifting routine and it works if.you.do.it right (i.e. read the bool, don't gomad and add chin ups and barbell rows + curls at the end)

There's a reason a basic bodybuilding workout where free weights machines and calisthenics are used and has people "putting weight on the bar" is suggested by litterally fucking every half decent trainer for normies.

Because it works, it gives them what they want and there's a far higher chance that they'll stick too it.

I ran a modified version of greyskull which is pretty similar to SS (except last set is AMRAP), added some accessories

A:
Bench 2x5, 1x5+ / Press 2x5, 1x5+
Dumbbell Row 2x8 / Chins 2x8
Squat 2x5, 1x5+
Snatch Press 2x8 / Dips 2x8
Ab work 2x10-12
Neck Work 4x20

B:
Bench 2x5, 1x5+ / Press 2x5, 1x5+
Dumbbell Row 2x8 / Chins 2x8

strength gains were good but aesthetics were meh. moved to PPL 6x a week 4 months in, strength gains remained constant but aesthetics were much better.
Also SS's goal is still to build up your big 3. I don't even remember it discussing how to overload accessories.
