My workout has been shit. A combination of depression (mainly anhedonia) and finals have led to me not working out in a week. On top of that, I feel the general loneliness and sadness that comes with my life. I am also eternally upset at living in poverty in a country with monetized healthcare so I cannot get any help I need.

I have zero drugs and I hate sobriety.

Back home from uni for the weekend, semester winding down. Probing around town for gyms since I have one semester to go and I'm not going to waste time and money leasing back in the uni town.

Found a nice sized gym (used to be a Gold's) with decent rates at like 15 bucks a month. No contracts which I'm interested in since I'll be out of state for the summer. Only main gripe is there are only two olympic platforms and I'm worried about peak times. Meeting with a manager tomorrow to discuss and ask questions.

Just want to graduate though 2bh. I've never been more miserable than I have been in uni.

Power lifting is good and all, but you're cardio is gonna have to be good too.

Yes you should go for lightweight, you would be a big / good sized light weight but an undersized heavyweight. But if you're a beginning it might not really matter, you should ask your coach though.

Try a 2k tomorrow. You should be aiming for under 6:45 which is a 1:41 split. But if you've never done one, you won't get that the first time unless you are a beast. 2k's are pure hell.

Yeah man rowing is a great sport, you'll love it. Just learn to enjoy the pain and embrace the lactic acid.

I didn't follow through with it because the school I went to had a serious program and there is no way I would have made it as a lightweight (5'8 150 lbs). My best 2k time was 6:34, but I nearly died and I doubt I could do it again unless I trained for it. We had a good high-school program and I never made varsity, I did it just more for the comradery and because it was something to do.

Races are fun as FUCK though, you will love em. Nothing like the feel of a power 10 when that boat gets moving with 8 (or 4) people in full sync, it's a glorious feeling.

Since you're on a 4, you as a person will be more important than you would be on an 8.

8's are much easier to balance, with 4's one person can really fuck up the whole boat if they don't have their shit together where as in an 8 one person can ruin the set but not as much.

Basically in a 4, the first person is the stroke (in front of the coxswain) and usually the most competitive and competent rower, and has the best form, they set the pace and everyone follows. The middle two seats are your power house (engine room) usually the strongest/most powerful guys go there, and the lightest guy with good technique is in the bow seat in the back and more responsible for the set of the boat. Positioning is more important in an 8, where as in a 4 you all kind of need to be good.. in 4 all positions are really important so it kinda doesn't really matter where you end up, where as in an 8, its very obvious when someone is in the wrong seat (heavy guy all the way in the back, smaller guy in the middle, bad stroke, etc)

4's are easy to flip so be careful ! first time I was in a 4 we flipped it and got bitched out for days. Gotta keep that set.

I would just focus on getting your cardio up. Power lifting is good because you need leg strength and core strength, but its useless if you don't have a gas tank. You won't be pulling on the oar with your upper body or back or arms, you will be engaging with your legs and core and hips.

We used to do 4 sets of these as a warm up before we went out on the water. (no rest in between, only minute and a half rest after each set is done)

25 burpees
25 pushups
25 jumpees
mountain climbers for 45 seconds
plank for a 1:30

It doesn't sound like much but if you do it full on, it's grueling.

Basically you want to get your cardio up, get your core tight and strong, and get comfortable with your legs being on fire (lactic acid)

Went to a house party for a few hours, then i had to leave early because a friend of mine who has been through some tough times lately wanted to grab a beer with me. So I went and had a heart-to-heart with him.

After that I got home at about 11.30pm when another buddy of mine called me and said he is outside my door and that I really need to come down and talk to him. I thought that maybe he had gotten in trouble or something but he was just high on lsd and wanted me to be part of his trip. Spoke with him for maybe 20 minutes then I went back home.

fell asleep 1am.
today is leg day, gonna be fun.
