Here's something you guys might like. We were talking about animal rights in my ethics class today and my professor gave the argument that there really isn't any valid reason to kill animals for food if there are alternatives. People say that since we are the top of the food chain, humans have the right to eat animals, yet if an alien race came to earth and decided to try to eat humans, certainly we would tell them to not eat us as we are a thing that shouldn't be eaten. Would a pig or cow not say the same thing to us if they could speak? You might say that well, human beings have a higher capacity of moral reasoning and logical thinking, but certainly there exists humans that have no language skills, no thinking skills, or are mentally handicapped, yes? Yet, we don't eat THOSE people as we would a cow or a pig. There seems to be some sort of distinction between a human and a pig or cow that isn't related to the food chain, higher levels of intelligence, or natural order, yet people will still eat meat and animals just the same.

What do you guys think?
