8 beers is quite a lot but no it's not going to cost you a week's progress. Let me explain how this works - after you work out your muscles experience elevated muscle protein synthesis levels for 24-36 hours afterwards. Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol will inhibit your body's ability to process protein - so at worst you don't get enough protein in the blood to recover properly from yesterday's workout. Not a problem if you make up for it tomorrow.
That's why a few drinks has literally no negative impact on gains, it doesn't stop your body from absorbing protein into the blood, it's just extra calories like food would be. Some people say that because alcohol leads to increased estrogen and lower test levels that it's a gains goblin - but fact of the matter is if you only do it once a week or so it's a negligible change that will have no noticeable effect on your body.
