How safe is it to work out in the city?
I was thinking of skipping bus and running/jogging on my way from the University to Home. It'd take about an hour or so, but my key concern is:
HOW SAFE IS IT TO EXERCISE NEAR ROADS?
You obviously breathe more heavily and more often. Does that fuck up your lungs, because you breathe in all that trash and fumes?
Also, is there any reason to get running shoes for running? Won't any comfortable shoes do?
>You obviously breathe more heavily and more often. Does that fuck up your lungs, because you breathe in all that trash and fumes?
Yes - this is why a lot of bike commuters develop asthma and other breathing problems.
That combined with the risk of being hit is enough to stop me from running in a high traffic area.
If there is a park or track nearby that would be way better

You're going to need to be more specific, chief

A normal metropolitan area, with a lot of traffic.
More specifically, a 600k population city.

Shit, is it that bad? Would running in the streets, away from the main car roads be better?

It's potentially a problem for sure.
How bad is it, for your lungs, if you don't get cardio?
How much worse is the street, than the recycled air at the indoor gym?
Just run, faggot. I do most of these kilometers outside and *cough* I'm just *wheeze* fine.

I was looking at this graph a few weeks ago, it surprises me that 30km per week is enough to put you above 99% of other fitness oriented people i.e. garmin users

>i.e. garmin users
the 'sample' is exclusively garmin users. I guess they aren't a very active group. I wonder if it counts people who bought one, set it up, had one hike and never used it again...
But I do like being in the top 1% I suppose

yeah that's what I mean though, it's surprising that among Garmin users, 30k is enough to be top 1%
also, if you look at the top right you're sorting by 'current'. If you open the drop down menu it's on a month by month basis, so those people who use their device once then ditch it aren't included

I would have thought that a city that size would have a few walking/cycling paths that you could use instead of the busy roads. Try to get a bit creative.
