It's mostly genetics. If your tissue us weak youre more likely to get one
>>
I was once told that I have a slight umbilical hernia - slight enough that I never noticed that anything was off. Anyone know how these should be managed/controlled?
>>
>squat too heavy
>all your insides turn inside out
Such is the lyfe of a lyfter
>>
Don't drop too low in body fat so that you have a protective layer of fat to keep all your organs in place.
>>
>>41200609
no, no, the muscles create a much superior protective layer.
I am an archeologist, I should know
>>
Always stretch your abdominal muscles when lifting mid to heavy weights. Thats a safe bet to avoid a hernia.
>>
i had one of these. There is usuallya genetic factor that results in a disorder of soft tissue development, but being overweight and sedentary will also increase your chances.

My doc said she'd never seen a hernia related to weightlifting since she'd been working on her own.
>>
I have an obvious Umbilical hernia, i have to do less squats then normal because of it, also any ab work has to be done slowly and lightly.

Build a strong core with a safe program and don't ego lift with shit form and too much weight.

If you use proper form and you are developing your core properly then hernias should be very unlikely.
