6ft 175 pound 18 yr old guy here
Started dieting about 3 weeks ago and lost about 8 pounds overall so far, tried Jogging today and was able to make it about 1km (with a few stops) before collapsing and taking about 20 mins to get my breath back and was surprised at how unfit I am considering I know people way fatter than me who can run much better than that so what workout do you recommend for me to basically get faster, stronger and lose body fat since right now im basically incapable of running

How will that help with jogging stamina though? I didnt include this in the original post but I dont want to just improve my image but also want to improve my speed and stamina when it comes to cardio
>>
I'm old and fat, and a while ago I had an american roommate for reasons I won't explain here. He was in his late teens. Anyway, there was a thing and we had to run like 1km from the train station to the thing. He acted like he was dying for like 10 minutes after we reached the venue. A teenager, over a decade younger me, probably a couple dozen pounds lighter than me, and he was that fucking unfit. Is it common in the US to be so incredibly weak?

yeah I'm not sure what OP expected with this thread.

To salvage it, OP you really should do some research on fitness and diet. Eat a sensible diet with a slight caloric deficit, do some cardio a few times per week and start lifting and you'll look and feel completely different in 6 months.
>>
>>41181801
i recommend HRT

Ah yes. The hour glass physique.

OP i'm 27yrs and barely ever did any cardio or running in my life. 3 months ago i started losing weight (220lb to 190lb currently, 5'11). I was in the same boat as you where I can't run far at all without my heartrate going insane.

But everyday I've been committing to running. I found the baseline; something I can do consistently everyday which is jogging 1 mile at 5mph (12 minute mile). Your heart will feel like it's going to explode, but it won't. Just power through it.

After you hit your daily baseline, keep going at that pace for as long as you can. Once you're truly beat, just walk at a good pace until your heart rate is calm. Then start jogging again. Repeat until you've done about 45 minutes.

I've been doing this everyday for 2 months now, taking a break once a week. It's only 2.5 miles a day, or about 40 minutes. Every few days I'll push myself and run faster for the first mile, or try to jog as long as possible after that first mile.

Progress is slow for running, but eventually your heart will get used to it and jogging will be no problem. Just have to keep doing it.
>>
>>41181801
first of all: stop being a retard. It was your first time jogging in a while, yes? And you ran out of breath, which is most likely because you don't know how to breath correctly. Running is all about breathing and you have to focus on that constantly until you start feeling like you can run till your legs break. And trust me it will happen once you get a rythm going. So if you want to keep running, you totally can and it's a great way to burn calories.

Honestly OP most people are way more out of shape in terms of cardio than they think but the solution is easy: just keep doing it.

If you don't want to run then hop on a bike, swim, or get on an erg (rowing machine) and just try to do 30-60 min

Here's a solution for you: slow the fuck down and take walking breaks at regular intervals. Lrn2/Couch to 5k.

How do I breath while running?
>>
>>41181801
If it helps, less than 4-5 months ago I couldnt run more than a mile without my legs burning and being absolutely wrecked. Now, I run 5 miles in just over 40 minutes, and my route includes 3 massive hills, so on flat routes I average about 7 minute miles. I also do 5-6 mile speed marches with a 20kg pack with hills included and can do that at about 10-11 minute miles.

The key is repitition and balance; if you go out and try to run 5k and fail horribly, youll feel shit, hate it and not want to do more. Build up in small incriments. Pick a distance thats achieveable, say 1 or 2 miles. Then, at your own pace, alternate between jogging and walking, jogging as much as possible.
The more you do it, the shorter your recovery period is, and the more times a week youll be able to do it. Dont push too hard too soon or youll hurt yourself. Build up gradually. Once you can jog that distance without stopping, then work on building up your speed for a few weeks until you see a decent improvement. Then, once you are pretty comfortable with that distance and happy with the pace, increase the distance and do it all over again, slow the pace down, see how far you can get before walking etc. Before you know it youll be running 5k at a fairly reasonable pace without stopping.

If you want to aid your improvement, try including interval training/HIIT such as hill sprints, as well as short distance runs at around 80% speed and long slow jogs at around 40-50% speed (a pace that you can have a conversation at). However only start doing these extra sessions once you achieve a good base level and want to improve your speed, VO2 max, endurance, recovery etc.

Last tip, but what worked really well for me on off days was doing one legged calf raises on the stairs; at least 20-30 reps per leg, and aim for 3 sets.

Best of luck to you mate. Remember, half the battle is just getting your trainers on and getting out the door.
>>
>>41182933
Not him, but train yourself to breath into your diaphragm and not your chest; diaphragm breathing wont give you stitches, and lets you take in more air. Breath through your mouth and not your nose, unless you can train yourself to breath in through your mouth and nose at the same time.

Its all about finding your own rhythm, but generally exhale on the left foot strike. I find that its a lot easier to inhale for a count of 4 or 6, and exhale at the same count.
When you breathe really rapidly, unless you can suck for England youll only be getting enough oxygen to supply yourself momentarily and not fight lactic buildup. Long, slow breathing helps oxygenate your blood, prevent lactic acid buildup and ensure youre in a comfortable state.

Might just be me, but I find that once i get into a rapid breathing pattern its very hard to get out of, and if youre doing it for a long run its just gunna suck, youll be sweating your arse off, hanging out by the end of it and probably have a shite time. Just my 2 cents worth.

Start lifting now! I used to have the same stats. You'll get stronger and cardio will improve once you have more muscle.
>>
>>41181801
When I started running I could barely make it to the end of the block. Now 7 min/miles are a comfortable pace for me and I can easily run 10+ miles at that pace. Just keep running and try to go a little further each time. Eventually you will need to take a more structured approach to your training, but at first just keep going a little further before you stop.

fucking WHY? you need to bump up your test not lower it.
my prescription:

>STOP PORN

>find a long stretch of grass or sand
>sprint for as long as you can maintain 100% output (probably wont be much longer than 40-50 meters)
>walk back to start point
>repeat 2-3 times once per week to start then twice per week after about a month

>learn proper form on compound exercises
>lift heavy

>cold showers/ice baths

>EAT FAT
>NO CARBS UNLESS IT'S A HEAVY LIFT DAY

>get some colostrum or gelatin hydrolysate
>>
>>41184085
oh and do bodyweight circuits, skipping and heavy bag work for cardio and stamina
jogging is literally for faggots. you want to look like a sprinter not a runner.

>>
>>41183463
I do want to run, I was just looking for advice on how to structure the training and where to start since rn I cant run for shit so i cant just simply do a 5k run
>>
>>41186910

run three times a week, always trying to increase until you can hit 5km without stopping.

when you get to that point, change the first two runs of the week to 1km for speed and end the week with a 5km. It will take you a few weeks to get used to how far 1km is and how hard to push to maximize your speed. After a few weeks of doing that, take your fastest 1km time, times that by 5 and THIS is your first real goal.

change the two 1km runs to 1.1km runs, keep doing that (still with then one 5km run to end the week) until you can match the min/km of your fastest 1km time, then bump the 1.1km to 1.2, and so on
>>
>>41186910

Google "couch to 5k" its a program specifically made for people like you, hop in it bro you're gonna make it
>>
I recommend biking at least every other day for 30-60 minutes. after 2 weeks you should add running for 10-20 minutes after you have warmed up your body with biking. Also its better for you to run on grass, easier for joints and you can fall down without hurting yourself like a cuck. Just bike to a park and run around there.
>>
>>41182362
I live in the sub-arctic region. I have run in everything from +30C, down to -47C (with wind chill). Learn to dress properly. Learn that once you can run non-stop, you can be warm and comfortable outside for that whole time.

Start slow. Slower than you think. Get to the end of your run knowing that you could do a little more if you had to. Take it easy on yourself.

But do aim for a little more.

In the beginning, you are slow as fuck anyway, so don't even try to go fast or hard - you are an embarrassment and have earned that place.

Plan a bunch of easy walk/run sessions. Get done slightly sweaty, but cheerful. Do this 5-10 times, then you will have a habit. Once you have the habit of running, your gains will be stopped only when you are prevented from running.

You can build up to incredible speeds and distances, if you are willing to build slow enough.
>>
>>41183463
>>G-guys how do I get good at running without running??????????
Not one of you faggots is going to help this guy? Fine, I'll fucking do it. Probably fucking bait but whatever...

If you cannot run, due to injury, incarceration or being a lazy fucking faggot who can't run in the weather, you can still develop your body for running.
1) Core work. If you don't know what it is, front plank, and read your phone about core exercises until you either know a better one, or can't hold the plank pose. Remember to tighten your anal sphincter.
>Form drills such as high knees, butt kicks, toe hops or handstand pushups will improve your running
>cardio. Do it like your heart is your most important muscle. If you don't know how, set your phone on the floor, then pick it up, raise it above your head (be sure to keep reading it) and then put it back on the floor. Repeat until you know a better exercise. Hard mode - go super slow

A stronger core/back will alleviate a great deal of stress from your legs/knees.

It sounds like you just started today and you overestimated yourself. I'd recommend something like Couch Potato to 5k, and do something like Starting Strength or bodyweight exercises on your rest days.

You should never be collapsing by the way, that is some serious shit. If you need a fucking break, take a fucking break. Slow down into it though don't just stop.
