It depends on where you are and what kind of vibe you want to give off. In America, it screams permanent blue collar worker, and not in the good "salt of the earth" kind of way. The reason it was so popular in the 50's is simply social rebellion, but even then it also highly indicated the blue collar shit (your example pic demonstrates that since Stanley was an alcoholic, factory-working rapist).

I can speak for other places, but in America it's not a good idea. If you want shirts that fit the frame better, look for cotton shirts that will shrink when washed, or go buy shirts that are already tapered (I go to Old Navy for this shit since it's almost always on sale)
