anyone here have experience on diy squat/bench racks?
tired of trying to snipe decent racks on cragslist
hawaiifag here so ordering a simple $300-500 rack would cost way more than it should be due to shipping, only other option would spending at least $1k at a local warehouse that sells them
I made one of those in your pic, op. It sorta does the job but I wouldn't want to bench with it. If you're making stuff yourself you might aswell make a power rack out of 4x4's, that way you can set up safety pins and it'll hold up better

Nice work man!
Just one thing, those pipe fittings are not as strong as people think, especially the cheaper ones can be quite brittle. You should plan to upgrade those hooks asap
Can I use safety stands to squat from? They don't quite come up high enough compared to even shitty squat stands, much less a real rack but they're stable and if I need to drop the weight theres like no horizontal force to tip them over due to the arms being so wide. only problem is the lack of height means I'd have to start my squat from a low position
if yes then how low should I set them to?

how safe are those safeties?

I used to use sawhorses for squats, so it sounds similar to your situation
Used to do the trick for me back in the day. Great for front squats and used it to bail when I cleaned, pressed, then back squatted.

Very impressed man, youve done some nice work.
I made my own power rack when I was poor. used it for 3 years till I actually purchased a real one. I used earth drilling peaces as my safety bars though.
