does this diverge or converge?
>>41150936
diverge, approaches -infinite
>>41150936
diverge obviously
>>41150942
i knew it
do you know the interval of conv. though
im having some trouble
/fitlit/ still lives
>>41150947
lol idk dude calc II was like 5 years ago. wolfram it
>>41150936
depends on x. Hint: it's a geometric series.
>>41150936
Use Cauchy theorem, I don't know how to say it in english. and then develop it like a normal equation. simple as fuck you brainlet
Thanks for reminding me to do some homework instead of lurking /fit/
>>41150956
ight nig
>>41150959
yeah abs value of x is less than 1
I thought converge means it appoaches minus infinity and diverge means plus infinity
>>41150960
wtf is that lol
nah i think i got it. Its divergent on both ends of its conv interval because r>1
>>41150967
no nigga
>>41150975
what? they don't teach you this in US ??
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cauchy_sequence
it's much simpler to use these Theorems, I did it in 5 sec
>>41150960
ohh nigga isnt that the gay ass root test
>>41150947
fucking hell the numerator needs to be smaller than the denumerator for it to converge you nigger
>>41150982
I dont know how you call them inegrals, but i know fo sho when we did them we would solve a limit and we would then conclude based on what it approached at the end
>>41150975
Man, there are 2 theorems that you use with that shit.
D'Alambert, and Cauchy. How do you call them, division and radical?
Anyway, with D'Alambert you'll find that the interval of convergence is
>3 +- 11/3
>>41150936
if you can't solve it yourself you don't deserve any scientific degree.
I had my last math class 5 years ago, and I know the answer just by looking at it.
>>41151001
correction, the ratio should be smaller than 1, thats what i meant
turns out im the nigger
>>41150936
Let's pretend that i'm a brainlet.
WTF am i looking at and how do i solve it?
>>41151001
you nigger
after you do the root test you can find r
r turns out to be greater than 1 so it diverges
so you dont have to test the end points
>>41151029
yeah thats the same shit
maybe you should stop memorizing everything and start trying to understand the intuition behind it
>>41151017
why would you use the other one when its to the nth power
fucking nigger
thanks you niggers
>>41151026
looking at some easy 2nd semester math.
OP needs to just pay attention in class or read the texts BAKA
what's with all the niggering in here?
>>41151019
stfu no one is handing out scientific degrees fagget
this class is a preq
>>41151049
2nd semester of what, university? It looks like cuneiform. I need a walkthrough before my brain melts from being unable to process this data.
what is this type of math problem called? Geometric series?
>>41151073
its basic calc
yeah or power series
>>41150936
why can't you faggots ever post the fucking problem oriented correctly? kys highschool retard
>>41151111
suck my cock
>>41150952
This is not /fitlit/. This is definitely /fitsci/.
>>41150936
>>41150942
kay I am really bad at math but what you write does not make sense to me
it's an infinite sum of basically (-x+c)^n so how it develops depends on x, which I dont see defined anywhere maybe because I am blind
so if x is 3, then it's an infinite sum of 0^n. 0^0 is undefined, the rest is zero
if x<3 then the entire thing is positive so basically y^n
if x>3 then the entire thing is negative so basically (-y)^n
now what matters next is if the number in the bracket is less than +-1
11/3=3+2/3 so the value is +1 at -2/3 and -1 at 6+2/3=20/3
so if -2/3<x<3 then the series converges to 4/11*1/(1-[value in brackets]) per simple geometric sum formula
if x <=-2/3 the series diverges to +infinite
if 3<x<20/3 the series converges, same geometric sum formula applies as above
if x=20/3 it is infinite sum of -1^n which does not converge but just jumps endlessly between 4/11 and 0
if x>20/3 then same divergence but the jumps get bigger and bigger
>>41152020
Are you actually retarded?
>>41152020
ehhhhhhhhhhhhh
this thread is dead
problem is already been solved.
