I don't have a whole lot of experience in the field yet because I only recently started, but for $2.50 I can get my oatmeal that lasts me a good 2 weeks or so, for $3 I can get 12 eggs and for $3.50ish I can get a pound or so of turkey bacon. I went to a liberal arts school (although it did have a great Neuroscience program, despite their limited budget and staff), and I ended up not only having to take an intro class, but I had these senior level directed electives class where we had to take 4 400 level humanities classes.

There was a lot of work associated with those classes, and of course, I tried writing shit that didn't go against the thoughts of the class, just because I feel professors who teach those classes just want to hear their ideas echoed back to them. It made life easier, I just wanted to pass my classes to make sure I get into a graduate program. Anyways, agreeing with them meant they were less likely to tear you apart, because they would have to tear apart their own beliefs and ideas.
