I started running this Monday, to prep myself for my tough mudder in June.
>1 mile constant for week 1
>Monday time: 15 minutes 36 seconds
>Sustained run time of 0.39 miles, followed by 0.4 miles of walking, followed by 0.2 miles of running again to complete the mile
I ran about an hour ago.
>Friday time: 11 minutes 49 seconds
>Sustained run time of 1 mile, no walking
As a bonus, I beat my best high school run time on the mile. It's a matter of will and desire to conquer your previous records. You can take it slowly, increase your total run distance by 0.1 miles to a particular goal OR increased your sustained run time from whatever point miles it is up to 1 mile or more. But you have to do it daily, and be committed about it.
Pick a decent pace (5mph is a good start), and don't worry about the time it takes you. Just focus on the goal.
