for both movements: i know coach rip says "head as neutral extension of the spine" but since your back is a bit "forward" arched i would want you to try to look up to something slightly above standing eye level. keep your chest more upright in both squats and deadlifts. for deadlifts PUSH your chest out before lifting the bar. that should put your back in a slightly more arched position. you still have some minor back rounding in your deadlift that will probably increase with higher weights. so better fix now.

What happened was I was with my friends as we panicked and tried to take our stuff and leave, and I was looking for my family when all of a sudden earths gravity turned off and I was stuck floating, unable to move.

What programs are you doing / what have you done in the past?
Programs like SS, SL and TM are so low in volume that you are not conditioned in any way. Once you start doing some higher volume programs with higher rep schemes you'll get used to it. Just give it a week or two if you're struggling.

my stats weren't great at the time, I think 160/100 (lmao)/180, didn't test maxes until a bit later, but ended up with 175/110/200. I did gain a good bit of size and much much better work capacity.

Currently sitting at 220/145/250 and struggling with doing reps for whatever reason.

Can't see any way money would be an issue. My education secures a decent pay, and I don't have to purchase a house. No real logistical issues either, as long as anything doesn't interfere with my hand-in and defense.

Availability, probably, but I think I'll be fine in that respect. Many salmon farms around here.

The squat sets you're talking about are the "deload weeks" so you could change those if you wanted to run the program.
The meet will be my second. I competed last year at a super twink weight of 165 at 6ft. I totaled like 900lbs, kek. Im shooting for 1200-1250, all depends on how my skills test goes next week.

i've never heard of that problem, maybe. its probably more likely that the cause of your hip pain was something else, however, and squatting with your knees out wide aggravates it. for example, when I OHP wide I feel a pain in my left shoulder but i know the cause of that injury was playing rugby.

getting into the habit of not pushing your knees out hard is probably a bad thing. at high weights/PR attempts/meets, if you squat without rock solid hip stability by forcing out your knees, hip drive will become impossible.

i only squat 190kg though so don't take this as any kind of authoritative advice.

your sumo is looking a bit conventional-y
You've got the hip mobility to get your knees out further than they are when they weight leaves the ground - you can see this as you push your hips down/in at the start of the lift they are further out than they are when the bar actually starts moving. However you're losing that external rotation because your shins aren't vertical causing your hips to shoot back/up a bit. Solution is to widen your stance a bit and DEFINITELY do lots of pause deads from the floor to work on keeping your knees out and getting a good starting position in general. That helped my sumo form the most.
I think your grip is a touch too wide as well
And goes without saying you should be doing hip/groin mobility work so you can get into the best starting position possible. I recommend pic related - and push your knees out with your elbows in both stretches. Only takes a few minutes, just do 3x30sec couple times a week.

It's getting to the point where I cannot have a diddly session pulling conventional without my lumbar hurting for like two hours after the workout, and all the guys I know at the gym have told me that their lower back pain went away when they switched to sumo.

If you don't want to compete i'd say stop doing deadlifts entirely. Do them behind the back/hack squats. way way safer and hits the upper back way better. Your sumo will be increased as well.

To add to this-
I had a disc herniation doing sumo deadlifts, the pain was excruciating, for almost a year. Despite my form being absolutely perfect, I still got injured. I watched the recording over and over and showed it to my friend (he got 1st place in a usapl competition one year so he knows his shit) trying to find out what I did wrong but even he couldn't figure it out.
Some of us just aren't made to deadlift. Layne Norton also recently received an even worse injury than mine, and his form was perfect as well.
My advice would be if quitting deadlifts is out of the question, then you should at least almost never go near your max.

Depends on what your goals are. If you want to compete in powerlifting then obviously there's no avoiding deadlifts.
Just want to look good ? Rack pulls at knee level, and yates rows work better.
