don't get overly connected to what you want as thirds, especially this far out. you might feel like shit that day and not hit any of those and be disappointed, or you might feel great and have way more in you, or you may feel ok and squat and bench fine but be drained by the time deadlift comes around. see how you feel that day and let that dictate your thirds.

I, myself, have relentlessly proven my GDEness. I'm 188cm (6'2) and 105kg (~230lbs). My stats are 200/135/240 (440/300/530).

The GDE formula reads :

F_GDE = f_s x f_il x f_el x f_th

Where F_GDE is the GDE factor, f_s is a factor that accounts for general strength (muscle nass, technique, CNS adaptation), f_il accounts for internal leverage, f_el for external leverage and f_th factors in the power of will (trying hard).

Let's now compare the world best (screamer) and me. He certainly is at least 20% stronger, being shorter his external leverage are 10% better (except in deadlift), I've taken f_il = 1.15 and assumed he tries 5% harder. All in all, we get F_GDE = 1.6 for bp and squat and F_GDE = 1.45 for deadlift (f_el = 1).

To some weak experimental and estimation error, we get

Total(Screamer) = F_GDE x Total(me)

If you think I've just thrown some random number in, know that I've been working on this for months and will submit a short article to some scientific journal very soon.

FR if you're still here, lower all of those openers and from now until the meet, pause your bench for longer. I would be very surprised if your bench pause in competition is that quick. even if you're fatigued, your squat opener for your first meet should be rpe5. you're going to be nervous. take something that the only way you would ever even have to worry about misgrooving is if someone comes up and hits you in the knee with a lead pipe.

Failed a squat PR last week and this week had to deload 10kg of my normal squat weights because had no strength at all. Did that failed rep drain all my strength or what the fuck? I never miss training reps, but how important is not to fail PR attempts outside of competition period?

I'm looking to start competing. I live in Leuven, is there any meet besides the Flemish open I can sign up for? I was looking around the IPF affiliated fed and it seems most meets are interclubs but there are no powerlifting clubs anywhere near me, or at least not close enough to regularly go train and join their team for meets. But as far as I could see, that only leaves the Flemish open championship that I can sign up. The Belgian championship requires a (low, easy to reach) qualifying total but it's like a month after the Flemish open so that kinda messes up the training. Would suck to only be able to compete once a year.

What do you guys think of The Cube? Someone at my gym recommended it to me, and it seems like fun. Right now I'm planning on starting it next week. Has anyone done it before?

Read. The. Rules.

Then read them again and understand what equipment is legal and what isn't. Pay attention to the judge's commands.

You'll need your opening attempts and rack heights when you weigh in. Don't be that guy doing kilo conversions when it's your turn on the scale. There are people in line waiting to eat and drink.

Don't open too high. No one cares what your first attempts are, but they will notice if you fail them. Open with something you can triple on any day of the week, 90% is a good rule of thumb. Second attempts can be 95%, or something you can double.

If this is your first meet and have never watched a meet before, then go spectate so you learn the flow of the competition.

On meet day, pay attention to how large the flights are and what flight you're in so you know when to start warming up. If you're in the second flight, then think about starting warmups between when the first flight starts their second attempts and when they're halfway done with their second attempts.

Make a warmup plan to follow, and make two plans for all your lifts: aggressive and conservative.

Have fun. Ask questions and make friends.

Week 1

Day 1 – 75% 4×3 (four sets of 3 reps)

Day 2 – 80% 3×2

Day 3 – 70% 4×4

Day 4 – 85% 3×1

Day 5 – 65% 5×5

Week 2

Add one set to each day (so Day 1 becomes 75% 5×3)

Week 3

Add one rep to each set (so Day 1 becomes 75% 5×4)

On day 4, instead of doing 85% 4×2, do one set of as many as possible with 85%. If you get 6 or 7 reps, add 5lbs/2.5kg to your training max. If you get 8 or 9 reps, add 10lbs/5kg to your training max. If you get 10 or more reps, add 15lbs/7.5kg to your training max. Start back over at week 1 with your new training max.

If you can only train 4 days per week, you can just drop the 65% day. If you can only train 3 days per week, you can drop the 70% day as well.

Run this for SQ/BP (and maybe add some bench acc) and pull singles twiceish a week.

While I feel like some overload work would definitely help, just having to always hit a heavy single is pretty good on it's own at making you comfortable with heavy weights. I've never done much overload work though so I can't really speak too much on the matter.

After 5 years of powerlifting, I quit.

Lifting for nothing but the big 3 is fun for a while, but y'all take it too seriously.

I've switched to lifting 3 days per week, and running or hiking 3 days per week. My mile time has dropped by 2 minutes, and my bodyweight has dropped by 20 lbs. My lifts only dropped 10%.

I look better, feel better, and will still occasionally compete for fun with friends.

Don't take this whole memelifting thing too seriously. You won't be any happier with a >400 wilks.

I had to take a 5 second breather between each rep on my last set. Is this okay, or am I just really shitty at deadlift volume compared to my max?

My deadlift max at 405lbs wasn't super hard, like I probably could have done 410 or 415 instead, but it was the first time testing my max since my max was 365 so I chose to keep it modest. But holy fuck the percentages that I'm expected to work with are so hard.
Maybe I'm not used to volume yet? I just sort of fucked around to get 405.

...sure. Whatever works, I've never bothered to track calories for more than a few days, I eat 'adequately' most of the time and I do more vegetables/less pizza when I get too fat. I've usually got a 2-4 pack at ~190 and 5'10.

Most of the time you should just eat to recover. High protein obviously, plenty of carbs especially around when you train, and don't be afraid of fats either. You can get away with plenty of bullshit but don't make every single meal a pile of meat and cheese. If you're trying to gain weight, add a few spoonfuls of peanutbutter to a casein shake before you go to bed.

I went a year straight doing TM for the bench which eventually evolved into me dropping my OHP and doubling down on some TM variation which essentially puts your volume and PR days in the same week. i was having legitimate nightmares about my upcoming workouts but that shit worked. i hit a 170kg x 3 at a bodyweight of 90kg~ before i injured my shoulder moving fucking furniture.
