Red pill me on lifting straps

don't
>>
>>40999320
Great for shrugs or snatch grip deadlift
>>
>>40999320
I don't like them because they are cumbersome and do not add enough to my lifts to outweigh their potential dangers. I feel strongly that you should only use lifting straps once you are able to lift at least 2pl8, so you have a good knowledge of what your body can and cannot handle.

They're also used improperly by new lifters, which means they OHP with weight they aren't ready for yet and their shoulders get ripped out of socket.

What do you event want straps for doing OHP?

I think I'm gonna buy some just for occasional deadlifts near my 1RM. I'd still do most of the sets without them though.
>>
>>40999320
Great for hangcleans
>>
>>40999320
Should only be used after around 2 years of training
>>
>>40999320
Straps only cover your shit form.
>>

these people are retarded

you should use straps on deadlifts and rows whenever you feel grip is a limiting factor. your upper back/lats/posterior chain combined have a much larger mass than your forearms so they have to potential to grow much faster. it doesnt make sense to limit these muscles for the sake of one smaller set of muscles

if your grip is slipping then you wont be able to focus as much on maintaining good form either

if you need grip strength for a particular sport (powerlifting/strongman) its easy to add in grip work to get it to catch up

Its gotten to the point i cant even tell anymore.
>>
>>41001381
Just use chalk. It works on your grip too and soon your grip won't be an impediment to your lifts. Otherwise you continue to have a huge disparity between grip and pulls
>>
>>40999320
straps are good, use them for pull exercises and ur back will explode
>>
>>41001464
No matter how much you train your grip will always be a limiting factor.

Show me a powerlifter/strongmen/olylifter that can lift his diddly 1RM with double overhand grip without hook or straps.

And hook is pretty much the same as using straps but with x1000 pain. Mixed grip is... well mixed grip
>>
>>41001464
I agree, but at some point chalk isnt going to cut it

you (probably) cant doh 5pl8 for reps, mixed might cause trap imbalances and hook isnt possible for people with short thumbs

straps are a good option
>>
>>41001558
I want to clarify that I dont mean you should wait til 5pl8 deadlift to use straps

heavy is relative. if you need them to dl 2pl8 then use them. but you probably need to work on grip as a separate issue
>>
>>41001381

This x 1000. Straps help address the weakest point of your lift (grip) so you can lift more weight and get big thick and joocy.
>>
>>40999320
My girlfriend uses them.

That's about all you need to know.
