fatties too lazy to make a new one edition

Who is /fat/ for? Fat members of /fit/ who want to learn how to eat right, lift weights, and lose fat. Here we ask others for advice and give moral support to one another. We all know how hard it first is and we all have to get through it to better ourselves. At the end of the day this is a support general whose goal is to help and motivate the chubby channers who need it. Please be warned that there are some chronic idiots who post in this general giving horrible advice that doesn't work for them or anybody. If you see something that contradicts what the sticky says, ignore it.

stats?
>>
Just finished my first 5x5 workout literally like an hour ago.

I just did the squats with bodyweight cause I don't have the form down completely yet.

Is 5x5 the only workout I need? Or should I do some cardio on my inbetween days? Or cardio everyday? Mostly trying to lose weight right, I wouldn't mind working on muscle in the meantime though.
>>
>>40972629
Take a before pic for your own records.
>>
>>40972631
Starting off at:
>97kg or 213 lb
>176cm or 5ft 9in
>body fat ~ 28% (not 100% sure just a rough estimate)
>>
>>40972714
good idea
>>
>>40972664
Cardio 2x a week.

You won't get the form down for squats completely until you are squatting heavy weights (>100 lbs) because your balance shifts when there is more weight. Make sure you push your knees out and follow all the instructions in Starting Strength.
>>
>>40972722
So tall!

BF % is a load of garbage so don't bother. There's no real way to figure it out. Even the expensive scans are inconsistent.
>>
>>40972394
You'll ruin your metabolism if you lower your calories to much, expecially if you are exercising alot as well. Look what happens to those biggest loser people. Better to cut slowly.
>>
>>40972664
Make sure your knees don't go past your toes that fuccked me bad once I got lifting heavier.
>>
>>40972761
Those biggest loser people were never taught how to eat properly or how to exercise or lead an active life.

They ate rabbit food and clean as fuck, took certain vitamins, and were put through a soul grinding boot camp for the enjoyment of obese people everywhere.

They didn't gain it back from metabolic damage. They gained it back from going back to their old habits of way too much food, too little exercise, on top of injuries they probably sustained in those insane workouts.
>>
>>40972745
right? i never understood the need for bodyfat % i just included it anyway. also im not sure it 176 is tall... just average i think

on another note, I am completely new to working out... any tips yall could give a brother whos just starting to go to the gym?
>>
>>40972761
>You'll ruin your metabolism
This is a meme. The key is to make sustainable changes to your diet. This is why crash diets almost always fail, you torture yourself for a while and then go back to eating unhealthy
>>
>>40972802
>Crash diets fail
They don't actually. You do in fact drop fat and weight.
The problem is that they don't fucking know how to eat properly to maintain that weight loss, up their daily activity level, do any form of resistance exercise and or cardio, and on some level they want to get fat again because they and everyone around them identify them as being fat and want to slip back into that.
>>

Reminder to eliminate soda from your diet, even diet soda.

I used to drink 4-5 cans of soda a day and I haven't had a drink of it for 6 months now. I recommend starting with sweet tea which has just as much sugar but helped me break the habit of the taste of soda. Now I drink unsweetened. You can also get flavored sparkling water which tastes weird at first but if will eventually grow on you at some time.

Trust me anons it will be hard once you start but once you get in the mindset that soda isn't something you consume I don't notice it's missing anymore.

>>
>>40972969
I have no idea. Use moisturizer maybe? A topical vitamin A/C/E maybe?

I don't really know. Depending on how overweight you are, you may end up with loose skin. Having more muscle will help fill you out. Some people opt for surgery to have some excess skin removed. Again, it depends how overweight you are.

Remember that being fat can't be covered up with clothes like loose skin can, and that being fat is destroying your health. So even if you end up with loose skin and can't pay for surgery, you're still better off.

You aren't counting calories right or are expecting results too fast. Keep at it for a month and you should see loss.

You don't have to do any exercise to actually lose weight, but it does help your general health and well-being

>>40973200
Do some cardio at home for now, if you're so scared. Anything, even a fucking Wii with Punch Out, just try moving your ass more often and keep counting calories, nothing else matters for now. Go to the gym when you lose a bit and feel more confident.

so I'm 6'3 285 lbs down to 274 as of this morning.
I have not been counting calories very much. more just changed what i eat.
no more fast food, no more soda, no more booze, no candy ( occassional coke zero when i really just have to drink something other than water or coffee)
I've been lifting 3 days a week and walking the dog for an hour or so as often as i can through out the week. I intend to start couch to 5k soon, i'm just a little leary because my lungs are fucked from smoking for too long. I have not quite kicked that habit yet. Advice would be welcome there.

Uni is back and I'll be cheating for the next 3-4 days. Is it better to continue to count calories, knowing I'm going over, or just leave it and come back in a week? I've had 6 weeks of food entered so I don't want to destroy that streak, but I also don't want to see those massive red lines pop up for days and days in a row
>>
>>40973384
If you are going to cheat, own up to it.
>>
>>40971651
/fat/ It's only been four days and I want soda and sour gummy worms so much.

Well, not enough to actually go consume either, but the desire is there. I currently leave weekends to eat junk (still within my daily caloric limit) though.
>>
>>40973479
If you drop sweets all together (diet soda, too) after a month or two the cravings become more muted. You start getting used to the natural flavorings in food, now that you're no longer being bombarded by processed stuff.
>>
>>40973507
I'll give it a shot. I only drink water/coffee M-F as it is, so I might just try dropping soda altogether.
>>
>>40972791
Find a routine to follow so you know what your doing, what your using. Try to go when it's slow and for your first times, always have a spotter for bench.
>>
>>40973479
start by doing some sweets with sweetener yourself. There are some recipes online. Less calories, and you can slowly stop eating them when the cravings get smaller.

>>40973384
Keep it tracked so you'll feel shamed and stop trying to hide and rationalize the cheating. Want to balloon back up? STOP TRYING TO HIDE YOUR SHAME.

What is considered skinny fat? I have a small stomach but I have like a stomach hip gap, I'm guess I'm chunky but not morbidly obese but according to my manlet Mexican height, I'm obese. 3 years ago I lost 32 lbs but I kinda gained most of it back. I don't lift but cardio and walking is what made me lose most of the weight 3 years

Should I just start lifting to lose all the gut and remain the current weight I am or just doing cardio and diet till I lose at least 30-40 lbs?

How fat do I look with clothes on, lads? Lost 50lbs in the last year and a half. Still want to lose about 25 more. Been lifting at home and hiking in the woods. I'm not trying to get "built," I just want to get down to a healthy weight and look. I'll never look like the skinny-as-a-stick, fashionable dudes because of my frame.

It's been a slow and steady process, but I've felt better ever since I started. Down to a size 1XL in shirts and 38 pants. Haven't felt this good since I was in middle school.

>How can a body be expected to burn energy reserves

because during a fast that's all there is to run on.

It's also a good method of curbing hunger and cravings. Since in general your meals will be bigger and having that window where you are allowed to eat makes it easier to ignore hunger outside of that window. It's tough at first but you get used to it pretty fast.

Yeah, that seemed really high. I've been sticking to around 2500 or less calories, though I'm not real strict about it. I just try to keep the exercise regular and keep moving up in weights. This post is almost entirely wrong except the cardio.

ehhh not 100%.
There's a different between man boobs from fat, and man boobs from hormone issues called Gynecomastia.
If your chest feels like fat and is squishy then it's just fat and will go away with body fat reduction.
If however it's tender and has actual mass or perkiness then it may be gynecomastia.

Unfortunately the only 100% fix is surgery, there is some drugs that have been known to lower breast tissue, if you're worried go see your local GP.

Tall dude from pic above. I lost mine from weights more than cardio. Hiking is great for stamina, and it does build your legs and glutes, but lifting is more intense weight loss.

I do high reps, 20-25. Curls, triceps, walking lunges with weights, situps, pushups, lap pulldown, kettle bell swing, and bench press. That's basically my whole workout. Nothing special, but it gets my whole body. Don't be ashamed to start out low weight and build up. Just keep going with it and don't stop.

Like I mentioned earlier, I do it at home. I never benefited from gyms in the past. I don't have a schedule at home. I just do it when it suits me. Mostly dumbbells rather than bars.

try not to weight yourself on tiles, they arent 100% even, so you probably get different result for every set of tiles you pick

or mark the tiles and use the same ones over and over again. the absolute value doesnt matter, the scale will pick up the differences though, so you can still track weight loss

I've only got carpet and tiles so I assumed tiles as better, I use a measuring tape as well just waist and neck but might start doing bicep and thigh as well.

I really really hope nobody takes what you say seriously. Lifting weights as cardio is stupidly inefficient. Might as well dig a tunnel with a spoon.
>>
>>40975680
You're too short for this ride, anon. I never said to replace cardio with lifting, I said lifting is better for losing weight. Cardio only burns calories equal to your activity. If you lift, you're burning calories from those muscles no matter if you're sitting on your ass the rest of the day.
>>
>>40975748

Who here /longterm/?
183cm, went from 98 to 76kg over the last year and a bit. I'm doing a sort of IF/low-fat hybrid with cheat weekends, I guess the closest thing with a name would be the warrior diet.
I know I could lose a lot faster, but I already did keto for half a year, lost a lot of weight while feeling like shit and constantly craving carbs, started giving myself breaks and yoyoed back before I knew it.
This is the first thing I feel like I could stick to, without denying myself any type of food for life, and with the prospect of going hungry less as I transition from deficit to maintenance. I learned to deal with hunger and that I don't need to feel satiated every waking minute.

The techniques are really only for skinnier lads, who have a few more pounds to loose but have some stubborn fat that just won't go away. They run a deficit, but just lose muscle...ect.

Book goes into a lot of detail about why these techniques actually work and target this fat. I recommend just reading it. I read it years a go and forgot most of it. One of the main issues, though, is bloodflow. And, surprisingly, heating an area of your body can increase it's bloodflow and give that fat an easier chance to be metabolized. (sounds like mom-bro science, but there is some evidence)

here is the takeaways from the book
>>
>>40976684

That asterisk tho...

Just joshing you familia, keep it up. Although I don't recommend keto for fatties on a cut. It comes right back once you drop that eating routine.

You're targeting fat by taking those sups, at that time period, doing that fasting, and doing that specific cardio.
>>
>>40971696
muscles weight more then fat, so if you're building muscles while losing fat you may gain weight.
it's normal.

This is wrong, that's exactly what he is doing any why he's frustrated.

Weighing yourself more often gives more info, just take averages. You can even use the info to notice things that cause you to gain water weight.
>>
>>40976855
Just depends on the person really, no wrong or right way to weigh yourself.

Personally I enjoy weighing myself often as I enjoy seeing how to fluctuates and what foods do what to my weight, plus I can see how big my shits are.
Some people on the other hand are more stressers and thus weighing themselves once a week stops them from obsessing
>>
>>40976826

ergo. targeted fat loss

oh my
Firstly this is not the appropriate thread.
Secondly, just eat and lift, begin with a full body workout and then once you stall transition to a split of some time, no point in estimating weight and all that bullshit.
Thirdly, don't gymcel, you don't need to gymcel to spend barely a couple hours a week at gym depending on your routine, nor do you need to gymcel to eat enough. you'll just end up with no friends and no routes to reconnecting.
GG well played.

>>40976933
>Are you saying you can target subcutaneous fat versus generic fat?
Yea if you're already lean.
>nor can you target specific areas of fat which is the spot reduction myth.
But you can, though. Not well. But you can. If you heat an area of your body, the blood flow will be greater, and fat will have a better time being utilized

Google a TDEE calculator, subtract 500cal/2000kj from that amount and count calories to that amount each day and stop eating at that point, use myfitnesspal and a scale to keep track of your intake.
You can't outrun your fork, don't bother trying.
Weight yourself each morning after pissing/shitting and use a measuring tape as well.
Don't bother attempting to do it all in one go, make slow baby steps to slowly eat better, you'll be drawn to healthier food in order to feel fuller from less calories as healthier food is less calorie dense than take out.

The fraction of the pound has nothing to do with his stress, it's the lack of progress. Weighing more often may show that he was losing weight but one day of salt or something screwed it up, which could reassure him.

You're projecting your own fragility onto other people to the point of telling someone to do exactly what they did in order to change. He said he weighed himself once a week and you said he should weigh himself once a week as a solution.

What are maintenance calories? Is that how much food you eat per day to stay at your current weight? If I eat less than that and exercise more, will I lose weight?

>>
>>40977229
a lot of fat, son
>>
>>40977089

Diet is the biggest factor by far when it comes to losing weight. In the beginning it's rough, but if you stick with it, you'll educate yourself on making better food choices out of necessity. As in "wow if I eat a lot of carb heavy meals and stay under my calorie limit, I'm fucking starving all the time. Oh hey, meat keeps me full longer. Oh hey, chicken is cheap and keeps me full." And so on and so forth
>>
>>40977229

>>
>>40977254
Maintence calories is eating at exactly your Total daily energy expenditure, which is the amount you have to eat for your body to maintain, that is not to gain weight or lose weight.
Eating less than your TDEE will mean you lose weight, generally go for 500calories less.
>>
>>40977254
>Is that how much food you eat per day to stay at your current weight?
TDEE yeah. If you increase your cardio, but stay at the same caloric level you'll lose weight.

Use the gym as a tool to clear your head to help you study. If you can't do that, skip the gym, school is more important.
>>
>>40977307
Pretty sure that's only the amount in a bottle of coke anyway.
You'll be fine, at those quantities i'd be more worried about your teeth desu, all that tea will stain them.
>>40977330
Any chance you could do just some general body weight stuff? probs good for you anyway, take a break from studying every 30mins or so and do some pushups or situps or planks or squats or some shit
>>
>>40977330
You should go to the gym in between hw for a bit. Take a break after 2-4 hours.
>>
>>40977351
Generally it's advised the lowest you go is daily intake of 1200cal for women, and 1500cal for men.
Below that and it's gross, however if you're new to weightloss I would advise not cutting that hard as you'll just end up bingeing, take small baby steps, and slowly build discipline.

Been at the same weight for 2 months...Is this a "weight loss plateau"? What can I do differently to start losing weight again? I eat the same amount of calories and do the same exercises
>>
>>40977431
Just means you are eating at TDEE, drop calories
>>
>>40977431
2 months is the point at which I begin to question your calorie counting, a plateu usually only lasts 1month max.
Firstly have you recalcualted your TDEE after losing weight?
How accurately do you count calories?
How do you keep track?
Are you recording everything that touches your mouth?
What about cheat meals/alcohol?

How long does it take for a fatty to lose weight? I'm 250 lbs. If I start cardio for half an hour/day and eat 500 fewer calories/day as I read above, will I see any noticeable results in 2 months? My main motivation to lose is that my face finally got fat and i can't deal with it
>>
>>40977469
there are 3500 calories in 1lbs of fat, eating at a 500 calorie deficit from your total daily energy expenditure for 7 days will be 1lbs of fat.
>>
>>40977469
You can do 1-2 lbs a week for a while before it gets harder. If just starting its possible to lose 10-20 lbs first few months from water weight and immediate calorie reduction, such as no more soda and such.

I used to walk on the sides of my feet as well. Been morbidly obese my whole life. 400lbs at age 15, got down to 280 by the time I graduated high school, then slowly crept back up to 350 over the past 4 years. I'm now back down to 326 as of last week, weigh in tomorrow. I've always waddled more than walked, but I think I'm getting better with it. I go for long walks and focus on my form. Sometimes I'll even force myself to walk on the insides of my feet to try to stretch/strengthen the muscles. It's probably terrible for my ankles though. Just take walks and focus on walking properly, might help you out.
