/fit/ I need your help. My dad is 52 and wants to get into weight training. Could you guys make him a routine that he could use under the following conditions:
>Not too hard on the back/joints, he has back problems
>3-4 days a week
His goal is to look good and be healthy. Thanks! :)

Any beginner routine will work. Just start light and focus on form to avoid injury.

Well, for starters, he's not gonna wanna do heavy compounds. Not good for anyone over 45ish (unless they have been training compounds for years)

Light weight high reps would be ideal. His choice if he wants to train legs, a lot of middle aged people choose not to.

Here's a sample 3 day a week routine

Day 1
Arms/shoulders

Dumbbell curls 3x12
Barbell curl 3x12
Overhead tricep extension 3x12
Push-ups 3xF
Dumbbell shoulder press 3x8
Side lateral raises 3x10


Day 2
Chest/Back

Dumbell bench 3x10
Incline dumbell bench 3x10
Push ups 3xF
Lat pull downs 3x10
Rows 3x8
Light benching can be incorperated

Day 3
Legs (or repeat day 1 if he doesn't want to do legs)
Leg extension 3x10
Body weight squat 3x15
Leg press 3x10
Dumbell squats 3x15
Body weight lunges 3x20

Remember to have him do some light stretching

Cardio always helps for heart health
As for diet, if he wants to look nicer, a calorie deficit is recommended, unless he is skinny. Eat unprocessed food.

The 5 Cs.
They work for anyone any age and both sexes.
Calisthenics(basic pushup situps and stuff, can go advanced if you want)

Cardio(can be walking jogging jumping jacks hiit playing a sport playing ddr as long as it gets your heart pumping and you breathing heavily)

Curlbro/Cardio bunny routine(mostly weighted upper body work for the curlbro, mostly weighted lower body work for the cardio bunny)

Calore Counting...I take that back. Calorie AWARENESS. If you are too big(fat), eat fewer calories, if you are too small(scrawny/annie), eat more calories. If you feel like absolute shit, then eat a better source of calories(fruit veggies berries nuts clean meats etc)

Chilling out. An inability to deal with and too much stress will make everything in your short life(because stress will kill you)very hard and very unpleasent. Learn to deal.


Your dad's up there in years. Get him into basic calisthenics and start doing cardio stuff with him. Then get him into that ego pumping curl bro stuff.
