Nope. Total training volume is the only thing that dictates your growth. Now that being said, I think we'd all agree that a set of 8 for curls is better than a set of 3. It just comes down to safety tho, I've seen plenty of guys max out on curls.

You can't be an elite lifter without being "big" but I know a guy who weights 60 lbs less than me the lifts way heavier. Easily three times his weight for his dead lift.
