Just don't do it on weekdays and police yourself to finish all of your work before you go out. It's not the drinking that is the problem it is your deep anxiety that the alcohol helps. Just do your work and work on yourself and that feeling will lessen and you won't need booze so much

OP here. I get the craving at night after work and i can't shake it, theres no way I can sleep without drinking a six pack of 16 ounce Budweiser cans. I've even tried taking sleeping pills it doesn't work.

Melatonin about an hour before bed helps. I find it really similar in that kind of getting you to the sinking feeling way. If I drink to get there, I tend to wake up in the middle of the night too. None of that with the melatonin. Give it a try.

Alcoholic sober since a year here

If you're a real alcoholic like me you NEED to get help. Quitting alone is basically impossible/unbelievably difficult. Your brain will do everything in it's power to convince you to drink if you're doing it on your own.

What do you do to get help? I don't want to do any of that gay intervention shit or go to a rehab facility. I might give medication a try. May as well do something with my Obamacare while I have it.

AA meetings are a good place you can go to daily/as often as possible to just be around people in the same boat as you and get support/vent. You can ignore the steps if you want.

SMART is another newer program that's similar to AA but I've never been to a meeting, I want to say it has more research behind it though

The hardest thing for me when I quit drinking was the boredom that then led to depression which then obviously leads back to drinking.

When all your friends are basically drinking buddies and your list of hobbies begins and ends with getting pished it's really fucking hard to stop.

By going to these kinds of groups you'll meet some people in the same boat who've had to rebuild their lives and have developed good, sober interests and are happy to socialise sober.
You can make some good friends and develop some new interests that will keep you off the sauce for good.

I used to drink every day because it made everything better but it was affecting my gains and it was making me depressed; if i had four drinks one night i needed five drinks the next night and it snow balled like that. Now i drink maybe one beer every six months my girlfriends dad thinks it's week not to drink so i have a few more when i have to see him but that's only maybe once or twice a year.

I drank 10-15 shots of gin every night for two years and the only thing that worked for me was a drastic change in environment. I took a job in a completely different part of the country and got rid of my car (I'm now in a major city). The change in my schedule and daily activities rebooted my mind and removed me from situations that I associated with alcohol. It's the only thing I've tried that allowed me to stop drinking for more than a couple of days. It's not even an issue anymore.

Why do none of you wankers drink? I pride myself on drinking alcohol. I don't get drunk much but I often have a drink. I'm not some filthy Muslim lover.
