starvation mode is a lie. if you were starving, you'd know it. your hair goes strawy, your eyes get dry etc. the only people who will ever experience thi are anorexics and people who are actually starving due to lack of food.

your body wants a balance of muscle and fat. it's happy when it has both in decent ratios. losing only fat and gaining only muscle is impossible naturally - your body drops weight in both areas. however, this effect isn't optimal fo the purposes of losing as much fat and as little muscle as possible if you're on a 1000 calorie deficit if you're not a fat fuck. if you are a fat fuclk, your body doesn't want the fat, it knows it has too much, so it happy to shed it. this is why fatties can cut at high deficits and stay strong (also notably, fatties tend to be strong because after a while their body wants more LBM and is happier to put it on - hence the presence of fatties in heavy categories in sports, they get the fat to swing the muscle/fat ratio in their favour in order to add more muscle). however, below 15% or so bodyfat, your body isn;t so happy to shed fat and will tart stripping off more muscle. this is also the reason why cutting to 5% results in an incredible loss of muscle to natties - their body doesnt want the muscle anymore because the ratio is disturbed the other way.

take it off in 500 calorie deficit or something if you aren't fat. if you want to go sub 10-11% bodyfat you'll have to go even slower.

there are more factors at play than just this however such as energy available to expend during workouts etc but this is enough detail for most people. this is assuming an appropriate food quality and macro split also.

I'd say I'm at 10%. My gym buddies were trying to estimate what bf% I was yesterday, and they guessed 8-9%, and as a rule of thumb I always add 2% to any estimation. I tried using an impedance machine a while ago, and it would consistently put me at 4-5%. That's obviously wrong, so the best I can do is guess based on my past physiques.


I've been on a pretty strict diet for about a year and a half, and my arms are unbelievably vascular. I'm also still on creatine, so once I get off, my goal is to get visible quad gains. My posterior chain is literal garbage though, which is why I'm so light for my level of fitness.

My gym stats are:

>Bench: 255lbs
>Squat: 275lbs
>DL: 365lbs

I also play a lot of basketball, and can easily dunk with two hands from a stand still.

TDEE is a sort of semi accurate ball park estimate. for example my dad has to eat 2500 cals to gain weight, i am currently cutting on 3000, and we're the same height and weight.

everyone's bodies run differently and assign energy to slightly different areas in slightly different amounts. some people have good tribal guy genetics and will function very efficiently, meaning they have a 'low metabolism'. other people, such as my mate, actually need to eat in excess of 5k to gain any weight at all.

TDEE is a good rough indicator of where you're at but you'll need to trial and error to see what you need. this is assuing that you're counting calories every day. all calories, including coffee, tea, veg, all ingredients in all meals, whatever. no estimates whatsoever

looks like you've been proven wrong, then. either that of you're incorrectly counting calories.

also, you mention that you might have lost 8 lbs but still look fat. here is my analysis of why that might be. apologies if you already know/do this, i don't mean to condescend/patronize you:

according to what and when you eat, your weight can and will fluctuate wildly. if you weigh yourself after a salty meal in the evening, you'll be full of food and water. if you weight yourself in the morning 2 hours after waking up having not drunk any water and having taken a shit (like i do every monday) you're looking at a more controlled and consistent state in which you weigh yourself.

calories in/calories out is (practically) the only thing that matters for WEIGHT loss, not FAT loss or body composition.
if your macros aren't in order (appropriate carbs, good food quality, high protein, sufficient fat and clean food), or if your caloric deficit is too high, then your weight loss is going to be largely muscle and comparitively little, or sub-maximal, fat. this will make the number on the scale go down but your body will look just as flabby as ever due to comparitively high muscle loss.

so, eat a solid diet after trial and erroring with good, clean food, high protein, absolutely no binging at all and good weighing practice.
try to also not jump from eating X number of calories a day to eating drastically more or less. try to phase any change in calories by steps of 100 calories every day, meaning it will take you 5 days to increase calories by 500.

if you're limited by weight, that's a problem. obviously push it as heavy as it will go then start adding reps. alsol i find that chest can be trained up to 3 times a week with ample tie for recovery.

i personally have had success with DB bench press, and others i know have had success with incline DB bench, incline BB bench and close grip bench press (not that retarded bodybuilder variation with hands almost touching, i mean shoulder width grip). also seen people online swear by weighed dips but i and others i know find it too harsh on the sternum.

my best chest builder by far has always been heavy fucking bench presses. i've tried flyes and they did nothing for me. i did them with dumbbells as i had no access to cables and they taxed my biceps and delts long before my chest had begun to do enough work

macro ratios, in my experience, aren't hugely important and so i've never aimed for an exact ratio split. i believe that going to that length is useful for people trying to get to like 6-7% bodyfat but you'll probably not see a difference. i can't advise on which is better.

i would say get about 1.5g protein for a lb of bodyweight, for two reasons: this will provide plenty protein (obviously) and will restrict you to cleaner foods. make the rest up in complex carbs, fruit & veg and good fats. 33/33/33 is roughly what i do and it works.

If you used to tan good I got some other advice. Also forskolin makes you tan a little easier, apparently forskolin + resveratrol can make you autotan. Caffeine can do something similar in speeding up tanning.
