Why does nobody make new threads until 400 posts edition

Last thread exceeded 300 lbs >>40835066

Who is /fat/ for? Fat members of /fit/ who want to learn how to eat right, lift weights, and lose fat. Here we ask others for advice and give moral support to one another. We all know how hard it first is and we all have to get through it to better ourselves. At the end of the day this is a support general whose goal is to help and motivate the chubby channers who need it. Please be warned that there are some chronic idiots who post in this general giving horrible advice that doesn't work for them or anybody. If you see something that contradicts what the sticky says, ignore it.

Do females really lose weight slower than males? I'm not even losing a pound a week. I've lost 40 pounds in the past stretched over the course of 8 months. Maybe I'm overthinking it

9 months ago I had a 6 pack. I also broke up with my girlfriend and started being a sad cunt, not working out just eating to try to maintain muscle mass. Now I'm sitting around 30% bf and my old clothes don't even fit anymore. My 2-4dnp arrives in about a week so I'll probably just do a suicide cut with mass stimulants and psmf. I just want to be able to go to the beach shirtless without feeling ashamed. It's the only thing I've been looking forward to in a while.

>Hating myself was my primary motivation for starting. Gets really easy a month in.
I've hated myself for over 10 years, if it was motivation it would have already helped.
>>
>>40843511
I spent around the same amount of time hating myself, always thinking I would just spend a couple months some time in the future to get healthier and just be done with it and show everyone that I wasn't always going to be that fatass. But I never did.

Then one day I was thinking about it and I realized that every single day I waited would be another day I had to make up for and the harder it would become, so I just started that day.

You don't need to be motivated, you just need to do it. And if you choose not to then you are choosing to be a fat slob.

how accurate is the tdee calculator in the op? i strictly monitored my calories this week, stayed 1000 calories under maintenance, and didn't lose any weight.
>>
>>40844083
probably water weight. You can vary by like 5 pounds day to day. So you can be consistently losing weight for 3 weeks and just not see anything on the scale

Just gotta stick to it

>>
>>40844153
Always go off of sedentary, and don't calculate exercise into your calories. Regardless it's probably still just water weight/shit.
>>
>>40844083
>how accurate is the tdee calculator in the op

Very inaccurate as all of them are. You can't possibly accurately estimate a person's energy expenditure from just their body measurements and a vague description of activity level. The variance between individuals is very large due to different daily activities whose effects on energy use are very hard to predict.

Your real TDEE is the amount of calories you ate when you observed your weight being maintained.

But do also consider that you need to be accurate in your weight measurements. You can't draw the conclusion that you haven't lost weight from two weighings a week apart because weight varies randomly. You should measure daily right after waking up and draw your conclusions by comparing weekly averages only.

Fuck off with your vegan shit. So that nobody is fooled by this:

The reason vegans lose more weight, is because animal products are more calorie-dense -> people on diet eat too much of them easier. It's harder to overeat your diet as a vegan.

Only thing that matters is calories in/out.

You realize you how flawed these studies are? You can compare a super unhealthy vegan diet (nothing but oreos, cake, sugar, etc.) and compare it to a very healthy normal diet (oats, lots of veggies, lean cut meats, etc.) and say "wow vegans are super unhealthy compared to meat eaters"

Vegans are usually healthier than non vegans because they are usually more health conscience than their average meat eater counter parts. You are on a fitness board though, most people here (ironic in /fat) aren't eating KFC every day.

Think the country with the highest number of centenarians (100+ years old) is japan and their diet is definitely not vegan.

>>40844317
You're probably eating more than 1800 and you're forgetting to add in oils and stuff.

Try lowering what you think your TDEE is by 200. If you're eating the same amount and nothing ever changes you're eating at maintenance. Have you been lowering it as you lose weight?

Would also suggest IF to get the calories lower. Or even go for a day or two of water fasting for fun.

You seem to not understand how these studies are performed on any level. I urge you to read the Methods section of one of them. Some of the studies compared specifically health conscious populations. Take a look at this one: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3414590

Japan's diet is much closer to vegan than ours. They consume vastly more amounts of plant-based foods than we do, and far, far less meat, dairy, and eggs (or at least they did before our diet has begun invading them).

they're really good, i've tried literally every flavor.

there's a big discrepancy in the flavor of them though. the birthday cake flavor, for instance, tastes really chemical-like and weird.

best ones i've tried are the red velvet flavor, peanut butter, and cookie dough. they all taste just like "real" ice cream. of course these are all the highest calorie ones, but none of them exceed 400 calories. compare to ben and jerry's at 1200+ calories a pint.

Anon I had the same problem last night. My brain fucks me every time. I start rationalizing eating badly or binging. What did my brain mean by this?
>>
>>40844451
You sound like a prime example of confirmation bias.

Rat studies should only be considered as guides for researchers to pick things to study in humans. You don't draw conclusions to humans from rat studies. Observational studies are always confounded by a million things. You can never completely adjust for confounders. Furthermore, nutritional science is in as bad shape as social sciences in terms of the quality of studies. Who knows how many Brian Wansinks there are among the researchers of the studies you posted. I'd wait 20 years for new studies to be done with improved assurances of research quality before believing any new major nutritional discoveries.
>>
>>40844443

Nah it's not a problem. The fries I'm craving aren't even available. I used to occasionally order chicken from this place that came with fries of course. And the fries were meidocre as fuck. >>
>>40844451
This study is still terrible, it is easy as hell to eat shitty foods at a "health food" store..they would need to actually track each individuals entire eating habits to compare them. This just goes back to the last point that a vegan will make more health conscience choices than a meat eater as well as having a lot fewer shitty foods to even possibly eat.

I've already dropped red meat from my diet and stick to chicken/fish for my meat sources. If you try and tell me those are bad for you, then you are dunce.

I can see preaching Flexitarianism (meat in moderation), but full veganism for HEALTH reasons is retarded.

You can keep waiting for the one amazing study that finally proves butter isn't a health food, but I'll just assume that given the vast amount of evidence pointing toward that conclusion that it's true.

I eat this almost daily. I pop in oil so it's not near as healthy as it could be, but there's tons of ways to mix it up.

Pan frying a bunch of garlic in the oil first and saving the garlic chips to add on top is an easy and fast way to improve it.

Mixing a little butter with a hot sauce, something real hot like ghost pepper, then tossing the popcorn in that and baking it for a few minutes after to dry it back out is delicious.

Even tried making a caramel glaze with butter and brown sugar to make caramel corn. Took an hour to bake but came out really tasty. This one isn't healthy at all though and I'm pretty ashamed how easily I chomped down.

Anyone got any ideas to try with popcorn?

Today's main meal:

500g chicken breast
2 peppers
1 onion
1 big stalk of broccoli
100g uncooked rice
Teriyaki sauce.

~1050 calories (550 chicken + 320 rice = 870. 130 is reasonable for the veggies. Depends on how big the peppers and onions I buy are I guess. Add an extra 50 or so for Teriyaki sauce)

This will fill a big ass frying pan + smallish bowl of rice, and will be all I need to eat today. It will also be absolutely delicious. I may have a protein shake later at night or something but probably I won't be hungry since I basically do IF and after eating this I'm unlikely to need anything else. Also might spread it out over the 8 hours.

>tfw almost below 300 after starting at ~340 earlier this year

Yeah it's simple as fuck to make too.

Chop everything
Cook chicken
Salt and pepper chicken a bit
Add in veggies
Cook on high heat
Salt and pepper round 2
Add sauce at the end.
Cook on high in sauce for a minute
Cook rice at some point during this.

That's literally it. Chop everything. Pan. Cook rice. And it's fantastic. The teriyaki sauce is the only non healthy thing but it's only some, not a huge calorie sink, and takes it from like a 5/10 perfectly average semi-tasteless health conscious stir fry to like an 8/10 "if I wasn't 'dieting/watching my calories' I'd still want to eat this" meal for only a negligible calorie increase. That 50 calories is worth it to not give up on your cut.
>>
>>40844748

And that's awesome. But if someone exceeds their calorie goal once should they just give up and go back to sleeping in their car outside mcdonalds?

Again going to advise a small water fast to know what real hunger is.

Most of what you think of as hunger is either thirst or just cravings. If you have the willpower to go a whole day or so without eating you'll realize (once you get over the "hump") just how little you really need. Helped me a LOT with the constant "I'm feeling tired I need a pick me up" thoughts at work.

Although I still have them because work is soul draining and I hate life just going.

Mexican food. Speaking of which, would it be a good idea if I cut a hundred or so calories out of my daily intake s day for the week before plan a cheat at a Mexican restaurant knowing it's going go be a lot?

I'm really hoping I can get down to below 300 this month. My weight's fluctuating between 301 and 305 when I weigh myself but I still can't believe it doesn't read 340 anymore.

Spinach and eggs.
>>
>>40844816

I do that too. I recommend buying fresh ginger and doing soy sauce and grinding/shredding/grating/whateverthefucking some ginger in with the soy sauce. Go a bit ligher than you think you need or else you'll be like me and have the most ginger fuckin' stir fry ever known to man.
>>
>>40844827
You have a week to lose that final few lbs, and at your weight you should be able to do it no problem. Just drink water, and stay at a deficit. You got it.
>>
>>40844849
I'm not going to buy fresh ginger anon I have things to do
>>
>>40844826

Smart plan.

At one point I was quite slim and I got there mostly with home made tacos. Tempted to go back to my wonderful taco diet.

>>40844865

Next time then bruh. Just saying, it's an option. Little things like that help you vary it. If you do a bunch of portions of it for a week, do some with ginger some without so you can have some calorie-neutral variety.

>>
>>40844816

Another good alternative of the same thing:
Cook chicken
Add Pepper/onion/garlic and 2 chicken stock cubes
Cover and reduce heat to pressure cook for a bit
Uncover and crank that soulja boi to max to get the liquid out.
Put it in a wrap with a bit of cheese.

Delicious. Slightly calorie/carb heavier than it could be because of the wrap/cheese but it's not too bad and it's really legitimately delicious.

>>40844906

Yeah. It's really helpful to learn like...how to alter the same thing to make it different. Ginger soy version. Teriyaki version. You could take the regular soy version and put it in a wrap with a bit of cheese for a fajita instead of rice sometimes.

Do one but replace the broccoli with string beans.

That's like 4 or 5 quite different tasting meals all basically using the same ingredients.

Does intermittent fasting actually provide any additional biological weight loss?

I started IF and I admit it's helpful because now I limit my calories to an 8 hour window, so after 6:00 I no longer have the option of saying "well maybe I'll have an extra fiber bar or a string cheese". So my benefit is really just an improved habit, not weight loss attributed to IF itself.

Anyone tried bullet proof coffee while losing weight? I normally fast 24 hours, then have one pretty big meal. I have lost a lot of weight during the last 5 weeks(lost 8kg). Today I "broke" my fast with a bullet proof coffee after 22 hours fasting and went to the gym early. I had a lot more energy than I normally have.
Do anyone have any experience with this? Since I only tried it one time so far, I have no idea if it actually works, or if the energy came from placebo effect.

>>
>>40845440
Can I suggest overnight oats to you as well? I use steel cut regular (not the quick kind), which normally take something like half an hour to cook on the stove top.

All you do is put your serving of oats in a container with the serving of milk. I like 1 cup milk to 1/4 or 1/2 cup oats (they're denser than rolled oats) which comes out with a good amount of extra milk--which I like, but you can cut down on that too if you want.

You just combine ingredients in a jar/container and leave it in the fridge. It makes it super easy to count the calories, because you won't be tempted to add more the day of if you're going into it hungry. You can also try different ingredients, like adding a swirl of honey or a handful of raisins.

The end result, with steel cut anyway, is like a chewy hearty breakfast cereal. It's satisfying for a much longer period of time than any boxed cereal I've had. When you first make it, I guarantee you're going to look at how little a 1/4 (even a 1/2) cup of steel cut oats is and think it'll never fill you up, but give it a try.

I also read a lot of people use rolled oats (again, not instant, this shit will turn to absolute MUSH if it soaks overnight) and I still need to try it, but if you can find it steel cut is delicious.
>>
>>40845508
Looking around online at the results for bulletproof coffee seems like a ridiculous meme scam, to be honest.
>Brain Octane Oil
>Upgraded Coffee
>Butter from grass-fed cows
Is this a stupid marketing shtick?

Is this the only form of bulletproof coffee or is that a regular form that's just butter in coffee? I do regular small fasts as well and any calories at the end usually give me a boost of energy--perhaps this is what you're feeling (plus the caffeine from the coffee can't hurt).

The only concern I'd have is the ease of drinking calories added to what you're already eating. 2tbsp of butter and a tbsp of this oil must be around 300kcal, which is no small amount for one drink.

>Does intermittent fasting actually provide any additional biological weight loss?

It can be more effective when recomping, that is, maintaining weight while cycling calories to slowly lower BF% and increase muscle mass. One clear benefit is controlling when you're hungry. In IF you concentrate your eating to the latter half of the day so you won't be hungry all day. Getting to eat at least one big satisfying meal each day can help mentally too.

Water weight fluctuates a lot. As far as not hungry, most of your hunger was mental to begin with, but your body is probably getting used to the lack of food.

As for if it's bad or not, I think it depends how many nutrients you're getting. Make sure you're supplementing with a multi at the very least.

I think the most important thing we should all be doing is building up a 'book' of recipes and foods we enjoy eating that lets us keep our calories down.

Look at it this way: best case scenario is that your cutting calories are your maintenance when you hit your goal weight and stop losing.

That means that if you can create a diet you enjoy and foods you don't hate for that amount while losing, you won't go back up. Because I think what kills everyone is they have a shit diet > they get a good diet to lose > they hit their goal weight and need to change their diet again because otherwise they'll go full skeleton > they go too far and get a shit diet > repeat until grave

But I almost think the best way to lose weight is to just eat at maintenance for your goal weight. Like use that as your cutting deficit and that way you don't have to change later. Those last few pounds will be hard that way but. You can adjust.
>>
How many calories does running really burn? Is there some way to estimate?
>>
Really considering cheating today. I really wanted to try the Grad Mac at McDonald's before I started my cut, but never got around to. I checked the facts on MFP, and if I have one and a medium fry, I'll still only be at 1500 calories for the day. But I keep thinking about how much chicken and vegetables I could eat instead, as I am quite hungry. I don't know what to do. Maybe just the sandwich, no fries. Then just have veggies tonight? Should I just stay strong? It's hard knowing I can fit it in to my budget. But I also know I would be hungry again shortly after. Give me advice /fat/

You're acting like a child, and from your living situation it sounds like you might actually be on the younger side. "Smashing every unhealthy item" is the most infantile idea I've ever heard.

Why don't you sit down and talk with your parents and brother about your weight loss goals and ask for encouragement? From all the shit you ate I'm guessing your parents and brother are also overweight, maybe it would be easier if everyone tried eating healthy together. At the very least, getting it out in the open might help your mental state, which is a huge part of losing weight and keeping it off.

You probably also need to see a therapist about your weird food stealing habits. I'm guessing you weren't born and raised in actual starvation so I can't fathom why you're acting like that.

Also, my main reason for even considering such an atrocity is, I just got home from work this morning (I work away 3 days a week). I just got paid, and I have to go grocery shopping, I have nothing at home to eat right now, and I haven't eaten today. The grand mac popped into my head and won't go away due to hunger. Although, the more I think about it, the less I actually want it. I'm now leaning more towards ordering a grilled chicken salad from the italian place across the street from my apartment to eat before I leave. I think that could be a better option. Normally I would just tough it out until I get groceries, but I'm at the about-to-vomit stage of hunger.

About-to-vomit stage from hunger? How long has it been since you ate? I'm going on about 21 hours and while I'm losing mental focus my body otherwise feels fine.

Are you sure this isn't just a mental hump you can push through until you get groceries? Salads from restaurants can have a lot of hidden calories in them, depending on what they include (oils, how they cooked the chicken, etc). If you really are dying though sounds like a pretty solid option! Good luck.

Why can't you do them? Grilled is ok as long as they're not slathered in high calorie sauces. For example a garlic and herb or lemon juice thing are both delicious and can be used when grilling (or baking) chicken as an alternative to say fried chicken like in the post.

>>40848036

Hmmm. I'm not sure what to replace them with that's LIKE it. I'd generally suggest nuts but you have to be moderate there too. I'm lucky that I don't care for chips really. I'd kill everyone in this thread for pretzels though.

>>40848044

Well you can make your own chicken burgers. Breading a boneless skinless chicken breast and baking it in the oven isn't particularly bad. Especially because you can get better things to bread with. Look into it, there's whole wheat breading, and other things as well. It's a bit of extra carbs than you'd otherwise get but and what? Budget it. Have a whole wheat bun and go easy on the sauces. It's not bad at all.

>>40848036
I'm just like you, I could snack on salt all day. I'm this anon here >>40844707 and I'm honestly clueless why more people don't eat popcorn. You can make a shitload and keep the calories low, WAY lower than anything chips could ever offer, and you can mix up the flavorings any way you want. I found a couple salt and vinegar popcorn recipes in like two seconds searching online.

It's easy enough people that aren't experienced with cooking can get into it, and the more experience you get the cooler the combinations you can make. Plus, if you fuck up a batch, who cares, throw it out. It's super cheap.

>>40848044
Also with you anon, breaded chicken sandwiches are fucking great. Breaded chicken anything. Not sure what the replacement is except just not eating it for a year and losing all cravings for it.

The fries, however, you could probably find a suitable replacement. Potatoes can be good for you in moderation, and there are a lot of ways to cook them to keep it interesting. Plus they last for a long ass time on top of your fridge if you never have time to cook them.

The trick is to find a way to cook it so that you don't add all the usual restaurant extras, like sour cream, butter, bacon, etc. A normal baked potato comes out with a texture that (to me) requires some kind of butter/cream. One recipe I found was a 3 hour baked potato, which is literally just
>Scrub potato clean
>Light coating of olive oil+salt
>Put in oven at 350 for 3 hours
No puncturing or foil or anything. The inside comes out very creamyish on it's own, and the skin turns almost hard chip-like. Great combo.

Or you could try hasselbacking a potato to up your plating game. Easy to do and it's something different. Pic related.
>>
>>40848096
Grilled chicken thighs with skin on are really high in fat and calorie. I only put only about 1 Tbsp of BBQ sauce.

Yeah it's the skin that's the big issue. You gotta either budget for those extra calories or go skin off. My father used to make this absolutely delicious chicken thigh tomato...thing. It was like, pasta with tomato sauce and chicken thighs. Using whole wheat pasta and making sure to add lots of mushrooms, it could be decent for a really filling, maybe not low but medium calorie meal. And the tomato sauce wasn't a store bought one with sugars or anything it was basically just an utter shitton of tomato. I should get that recipe off him.
>>
Is there anything bad healthwise in la croix?
>>
>>40848289
There is also a good deal of fat on the thighs. Large pockets of it. They sell boneless skinless chicken thighs, but when you grill it with the skin on it completely changes the flavor even if you take it off after.

I like want to eat them, but thinking about it after going vegan it just hits me like, how can I pay and contribute to the suffering and death of the animal I'm about to eat? It's not something I feel I can do anymore. It would make me a hypocrite, and I'd regret it, even if it caused me some joy in the moment. I can always just eat some candy if all I want is some momentary deliciousness.

I got the salad. It contained lettuce, tomato, onion, black olives, banana pepper rings, and about 1/4 of a grilled chicken breast, and a sprinkle of mozzarella. Hi /fit/. 5'9", 250lbs, gril. Trying to get down to 190 or so, started using MFP and actually going to the gym about a month ago and doing good so far.

MFP has me eating 1870 cal a day. Is that few enough to notice a change? I'd rather make subtle and realistic lifestyle changes then try to make huge unrealistic cuts then binge and yo-yo. But the fact that I'm mostly eating the same stuff as before, just less of it with fewer snacks, is getting to me. Is that really all there is?

The TDEE calculator in the sticky says my TDEE is 2361 cal (when I put "little to no exercise" - "light exercise" is probably closer to what I actually do, but that puts me at 2700 which seems too good to be true). But some posts say not to listen to that.

If you eat, allow 1-1.5 hours before working out. Don't allow yourself to get sick from overeating then working out. Plan your workout, if you don't have time to eat and wait, just go workout instead. Hitting the gym at any time is better than not.
>>
>>40849455
I'd say the range 2250±250kcal is ~90% likely to contain your TDEE. So, 1800kcal is a pretty good first guess for a caloric deficit. Eat at that level for three weeks while measuring your weight every day right after waking up and taking a piss. I'd expect there to be lots of weight lost due to reduced poop and other water weight lost in the first week. So ignore the first week. Compare the weekly averages of the next two weeks to determine whether you've lost weight. If there's a difference of 2 or more lbs, you can consider this to be strong enough evidence of losing weight. If it's 1lbs, you're probably losing weight but confirm it by continuing with the same calories for one more week. If it's ½lbs or less, lower calories by 200 and continue for one week to see if that shows the the desired results. Repeat as needed to reach a rate of weight loss that feels acceptable and tolerable to you.

I eat a lot of fiber all the time so it's really not a big deal for me.

The original Fiber One cereal is the shit. I eat 2 cups of it which is only 240 calories.

I just wish it didn't have sucralose in it.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2495396/

Guy fasted for over a year and lost 125kg in total at a rate of about 1kg every 3 days. It wasn't complete starvation as he received a tiny amount of protein in addition to micronutrient supplementation. If you intend to fast or even lower your calories to very low levels for long periods of time, you have to take micronutrient supplements or you'll get very sick from deficiencies. A small amount of protein is seems to be absolutely necessary also.

>Is it just human nature to try to bring people to your level?

Sadly yes. If you're doing better than people, they fucking hate you for it and want you to fail. If you're not doing as well as them, then they'll look down on you as being scum.

In short. Most people are complete arseholes. It's nearly impossible to completely stop caring what they think, but you can train yourself to mostly not give a shit about their pigeonshit opinions with time. Just remind yourself than anybody trying to pull you down for their own gratification is basically weak and incapable of feeling good about themselves without their "hit". Sure, you're basically looking down on them to stop yourself from caring about them looking down on you in the first place, but it's not a bad way to manage it I've found.

6ft, 260lbs

i posted here last week about running as a guy with fucked up knees, tried it for 1 week and stopped because my joints started hurting, i said to myself i'd stop the second i'd feel anything other than muscular pain

I'm my current situation it's not possible to get an elliptical or a bike, i have a home gym which consist of a squat rack, a bench, 2 db's, a bar, and 4 pl8s. but i'm planning to get a bike within the next month (poor student, hopefully will get a job next week and start saving) no gyms near my house and even then i wouldn't pay 50 bucks a month just for cardio equipment.

is brisk walking (or even just walking) injury proof? heck i'd walk for 2 hours just for those mental gains.

Dude my end goal is 150 I'm 310 now. Dink water, and most insurance companies now will cover some of the cost because it can be unhealthy to carry all that skin. Work on loosing the weight.

if your goal is weight loss walking is enough alone.

Not enough for an actual cardio workout though.

sounds like you need swimming

It get acquired after a while. I love the feeling after a good run but during it's a bit boring. I listen to podcasts or ebooks to make it more enjoyable, running outside in fresh air is definitely better than inside and I imagine biking has to be funner than an elliptical.

But it still kinda sucks. Your heart and body stops feeling like it's gonna die after a while. And that plus your brain associating running with that after run feelgood makes it more enjoyable after a while.

What you'll really notice after a good while of doing it is that if you skip a work out your whole day just feels like shit.
