Don't listen to that loser, mate. It's easier to make friends than you think. First off, it's not weird to go to a bar alone. Just don't expect to be best friends with everyone there. Chat with people, be polite, it's normie shit. If you're really nervous just tell em your partner is away for the weekend and you wanted some company. Ofc it's better not to lie (just bc it's hard to keep up longterm) but if it gets you confident enough it's fine for a bit.

Join a rec sports league (don't tryhard), or an interest group. In my town there are low key clubs for a ton of weird shit if you look for em. All else failing, literally just frequent a park. Take a book and walk around. don't worry about making friends, just casual small talk with people who cross paths. Literally just talk with strangers till you're comfortable with it.

I've got nothing to lose, I guess. Maybe I drive to the next big city, though but then I can't drink. My town only has 1700 people, so the options to go anywhere is highly limited.

I'm unsure how to approach a bunch of people at a bar, I doubt many are alone there, if any.

My life is currently a disaster and I basically put a goal on myself recently, if I haven't made it (moved out of my parents house, made friends, moving forward in my life etc) by New Years Eve 2017 I'm just going to kill myself. I was content for years on living a /fit/ and /r9k/ life but now that is over. I can't spend decades living like this.

I know you're on 4chan, but there is something you care about, I'm sure. Join a volunteer group for that thing, whatever it is. Soup kitchen, boys and girls club, it doesn't matter. Your goal is just to talk to new people almost every day. "Starting socializing." You can move to an intermediate program once you've made a friend who'd be comfortable spending an afternoon with you
