At the very least you can control when you're hungry by controlling when you eat. By concentrating most of your eating into a smaller window of time you can avoid being hungry during that time, if you get to eat enough. If you make this window of time the latter half of the day, you won't have to be hungry when you go to sleep. This is what intermittent fasting is.

Another trick is to just be hungry. Hunger doesn't force you to eat. You think that you can't withstand the hunger. But maybe you can. Keep reminding yourself that you control your eating and not your hunger. Maybe it'll affect how you actually feel about being hungry. You might stop considering it a problem that needs to be eliminated.

There are choices of foods, drinks and activities that can reduce the actual amount of hunger your diet causes. But this is really hard to predict as people react differently to things. A starting point from which you can begin experimenting to see what works for you is to drink more and eat more fibrous and watery foods. Protein and fat are usually more satiating than carbs. But carbs come with fiber which also increases satiation.

You can of course combine intermittent fasting, meditating on your attitude toward hunger and trying to satiate yourself more efficiently.

Thanks. I wish I could do a tighter eating window, but I have to entertain people at work for lunch most days. I eat small amounts, just enough to look like I'm eating, but just that bit of food generally gets my appetite going really hard.

I've been for sure trying to eat foods that keep me fuller longer. For example lunch I try to eat no - or very little - carbs, which does seem to help a bit.

It sounds like I need to practice accepting the feeling of hunger.

I'll tell you how I do it
Go IF - I eat around 11am then snack @14 and for the rest of the day I just dodge occasions to eat and drink fuckton of water/tea/coffee. By fuckton I mean fuckton, yesterday drank 2,5l of water + 3 cups of tea and 2 cups of coffee.
Also chewing gum helps to have something in your mouth.
Don't eat pasta - you won't ever get full, it's a lot of calories and you will be hungry an hour later.

I love plain brown rice 150g cooked + 120g steamed broccoli + 100g steamed carrots + 200g chicken breast boiled without skin. Veggies are hard to swallow at first - Ive never eaten vegetables before in my life and they tasted awful, but after week or so forcing they become an acquired taste and I kinda like them now.

Drink water to your meals and remember to chew - just gulping down won't make you feel full and you'll use all your calories.

Don't sit bored and browse web - I find myself prone to eating when I'm bored, so I constantly read books, watch movies, work, sleep or workout.

Oh, also COUNT CALORIES.
I find myself overeating when I dont add entry to myfitnesspal. I don't feel hunger, I'd call it urge to eat, so I force myself to eat only as much as I need and I eat even when I dont feel hunger - always 11 and 14

Started to cut 2 and a half months ago at 105,7 kg 193 cm tall BF 22,7%.

Currently I'm between 90-91 kg, around 15-17% BF and still eating 2300 kcal per day while going to the gym and doing regular cardio.

I used to hate going to the grocery store, i felt like everyone was judging me because i was a fatass buying frozen pizza, snacks, bread and sausages almost no veggies or anything healthy.
Now i love going to the grocery store, i feel like i'm buying adult food for the first time in my life. Half of the stuff i buy is fruits and vegetables, the rest is rice, oats, milk, eggs, lean meats, fish and generally foods that are considered healthy.

At 285 and 6'3, fluctuating five or six pounds is fucking nothing. You let one data point in a highly variable system convince you to change the method. Now you're letting a second data point convince you to doubt again. You need more time for the sake of consistency.

Why do you say that? Not that anon but I've been doing keto for a while now and one of the benefits I've seen is lack of cravings not more of them. I don't have any interest in chocolates and shit now, and the few times I do have them I end up getting a tummy ache because my body isn't used to it (I'd say that's a downside of keto, the rare times I break it with a rich desert or something like that I get really ill)

I always wonder what setting I should pick on these things for the exercise question. Most of them say 1-3 hrs a week light exercise and 3-5 hours of moderate exercise. I lift weights 3 days a week at ~1 hour a day and I do some fairly intense cardio 3 times a week 20 min each. That's 4 hours total. Should I choose moderate? Because I don't see myself expending many calories while lifting weight so idk if that can truly be counted as "exercise". Enough to raise my tdee that is.

I think the more accurate belief in this case would be that the tiredness alleviation is one of caffeine's effects that humans build tolerance to. Not necessarily the only one.

I also only know of the adenosine receptor adaptation that occurs with caffeine use. But caffeine affects other receptors in the brain too and I have no knowledge of how that works. So I can't be certain that I know all of things you build and don't build tolerance to with caffeine.

Meditation changed my life. I used to have such bad anxiety and used to overthink everything which would create many problems in my life. Meditation teaches you to not get too caught up in your thoughts and just live in the present moment without judging every little thing you do or thought you have. Weightlifting does burn a lot of calories. You can set sedentary as an 'extra buffer', but you'll probably end up running a higher deficit than you think. If you get super hungry and lose weight fast, you should adjust your target after a few weeks or so.

Consider the possibility that these could be caused by things other than your caloric deficit. For example. the symptoms of hypothyroidism include both weight gain and low blood pressure. Dehydration is the most likely suspect though. Postural hypotension could also simply be a thing you've always had but just haven't noticed until now. Low blood pressure could also be induced by not getting enough sodium, though that's unlikely, if you eat anything like average people do.

Not everything revolves around food. But do get checked out by a doctor if drinking reasonable amounts of water and not depriving yourself of salt completely doesn't fix your dizziness.

That 4kg would have been mostly water weight, but some fat too. It's normal to have a big drop at the start of your diet from less water and food being absorbed in your system. Still, it's quite a good start. Keep it up, fatty. But at 180cm 89kg, you might have to cut at 2000cal if you want to see any real progression in a good time span, but if you get lots of exercise then don't worry about it.

Low carb means low fiber usually. Withing a few days of starting any diet the amount of poop you carry around is reduced because of this. The amount reduced is greater if you reduced your fiber intake a lot. So most likely the 4kg was just poop AKA "water weight".

But continue counting calories for two weeks and see if your weekly average weight has dropped. If not, reduce calories and monitor weight for another week. Repeat until you find the amount of calories that makes you lose weight.

Forget it. This about the absolute lowest a male's bodyfat can go. 12% is already athlete-level shredded. Also, the lower your BF% is, less calories are portioned off fat tissue in a deficit. It gets harder and harder the lower you go.

Otherwise, you're doing well if you're already counting calories and lifting. Your first week of weight loss shouldn't be counted as that's usually just a reduction in the amount of poop you carry. Keep monitoring weight with weekly averages and adjust calories as needed to keep losing weight.

Appreciate the change of heart, anon. She really was my everything and to have that happen to me was painful. It's taken a lot of time to even get to the point of blocking her out or just talking to other women in the same way.

I cleared everything i had from my computer and facebook a couple of weeks ago. However i was able to rustle up this picture from before the boob job. We'd been married about a year and went to the wedding of a mutual friend in Bulgaria.

Also part of my problem is that i'm way heavier than i look. Other people who are my weight have been way bigger than me. It gives me encouragement in that when i actually lose weight i'll be built like a tank.

But starting out when you're struggling you can look for food that's not calorie dense so you can get that volume of food you need to feel comfortable. like a salad.

Former 455lb planet down to mega fatty here. Hovering around 350lbs at 6'4". Was trying and failing to lose weight on 700-800 calories a day. My doctor practically slapped me when I told him what I was doing and he said my stupid choices reflected in my bloodwork. Low in all B vitamins, K, D, my Leptin is off the charts, and something to do with a super under active thyroid. (According to his observation)

Long story short, he recommends ketosis diet. Didn't even give me a calorie limit when I asked and said to just eat strictly on the diet, eat until I'm full, not stuffed.

Related, has anyone been "shamed" when food shopping? I'm putting my stuff on the belt at the super market and I just so happened to be put behind a vegan I think. All he had were fruits, vegetables, tofu, and a bunch of shitty looking snacks from the organic hippy section. Gave me a dirty look while shaking his head. Your honestly is appreciated. I feel like i made the right decision in coming to you, /fit/.

As much as it can hurt hearing, it's that hurt that's gonna get me slim.

I've lurked a couple of threads and got an idea of what to start with.

I'll start with taking a run tomorrow morning. I'll keep track of my weight on a spreadsheet and take a few pictures for the sake of before and after. I'll cut my portions down and get some simple weights so i can do some easy lifting at home.

I'll post my progress once in a while and be sure to take my lumps for being the fatass i am.

Thanks for making me realize that i have more ahead of me chaps. I'll make sure to update my progress.

Rice cookers are as cheap as $20 on amazon/walmart.

Going really low in calories has that risk of not having enough micronutrients since you'd need to get the required amounts from a drastically smaller quantity of food. I strongly recommend eating a multivitamin, additional vitamin D and, as you apparently need it, a vitamin K pill too. Multivitamins don't have K usually as there are idiots who take 2-3 of multivitamins per day and might overdose on K like that. Look up the recommended intakes for these and make sure you get enough of everything.

I've got a spreadsheet where I keep track of all macros and micros. It was a little trouble setting up but now that I've figured out the foods that give me complete nutrition I can just eat the same stuff every day and I no longer spend any time thinking about whether I'm getting everything.

Got fat after some medical procedures that fucked up my diet.

Lost 40 pounds and was just above overweight.

Another medical procedure and medicine caused me to bloat up and lose all of the progress in like three months.

Next year I would lose 20~ pounds then gain it back every few months a few times just to keep me in the 190 - 210 range.

Year after that I had major surgery on my leg that made me immobile for six months, coupled with a shitty diet I ballooned to 250.

As of today I am 225, excited to see what the future holds as I haven't had any medical emergencies in a long time.

BIA handhelds and scales are no way near this accurate. You might as well eyeball your BF%. Their problem is that they don't analyze the entire body but only a part of it and estimate the state of the rest of the body based on that. They're still shit.

There's apparently some newer stuff that combines the handheld and scale. I don't think it's cheap and the info of its accuracy comes from the company making them, so you can't be sure they aren't just bullshitting.

yes. every sunday i cheat because its the one day i have family dinner with grandparents, father, uncle, etc. i dont let on that i am dieting so i eat as normal, probably around 2kcal. but every other 6 days is only 600kcal, >100g protein and daily racquetball sessions of 1 hr or longer. my BMI isn't that high, 24, but i don't like my weight right now. i need to change this.

all the pain i suffer for those 6 days is to compensate for this one day. i must be stronger next week to try to stay under 2kcal.

Don't restrict yourself to "healthy foods" as ingredients. The healthiness of your diet depends on the total sum of the nutrients you eat. Enough of some, not too much of others, etc. Choose whatever combination of foods that achieves this.

Don't bother looking up recipes. All you need is 1-2 main ingredients and 1-2 ingredients for taste, usually oil and salt. Fatty and salty food is delicious. You can use unflavored whey protein as ingredient in things like oatmeal. Fresh fruit and vegetables don't need to be cooked and are delicious. All you need to know is how to fry and boil things. There's really no need for anything fancier.
