Weekend feels edition

last one is about to die because of bmi > 300

Who is /fat/ for? Fat members of /fit/ who want to learn how to eat right, lift weights, and lose fat. Here we ask others for advice and give moral support to one another. We all know how hard it first is and we all have to get through it to better ourselves. At the end of the day this is a support general whose goal is to help and motivate the chubby channers who need it.

Just how bad is smoking for trying to lose weight? it fucks with your respiratory system for sure but other than long term effects can you expect to get any sort of problem besides that when going for weight loss?

Also wanted to know just how many calories you guys go for in your deficits so that I can get an idea of where to go right now.

what has worked for you? how do you stay motivated?

>Cut calories and avoid high calorie foods like soda, ice cream, etc.
>Try to do High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) 3 times a week ((Run 2 minutes, Sprint 1 minute, 20 minutes total))
>Get some protein within 30 minutes after your workout
>Try to lift a couple times a week (the more the better) ((generally takes 24 hours for a muscle group to recover from a workout so try to be flexible with your lifting routines))
>Vary your order of lifting and exercises, this is beneficial so your body doesn't become resilient and adapt to your workout patterns

I'm tired of this meme posted every thread. People can cut on more than a 500 kcal deficit. Worst case, they binge and up their daily kcal intake. Not everyone got fat binge eating, a lot of people it was just years of poor diet/lack of exercise.
>>
>>40754394

I mean you're right about it being posted constantly in this thread, but this guy is literally not exercising because his deficit is too large.
So you say there are people in this thread who gained weight through lack of exercise...maybe they should...I don't know... exercise? And not use their ridiculously unsustainable cut to justify their laziness?

Does anybody have any tips on how to avoid eating out of stress?
When my life is going relatively smoothly, i can diet, exercise, and other things like it's no problem.
But when I get too stressed, i cant explain it. Things I'd never even crave im suddenly picking up and shoving in my face. I actually eat myself sick.
I have a big renovation going on in my house thats been stressing me out a lot. Thursday it all culminated and I went on a two day food bender. I got my shit together, but I want to see if anybody has any tips on how to avoid this in the future
>>
Stopping by as a skinnyfat guy asking what worked for you for cutting weight. I'm 190 lbs , slowly building muscle on a PPL over the last month but have a fair amount of fat I want to shift. For me watching calories is absolutely key, I've not missed a day logging into MFP for over a year. Intermittent fasting helped a lot also, I do a mix of OMAD and just skipping breakfast. Also I never went full Keto, but watching carbs helped me a lot. It keeps energy levels more stable and hunger under control. All eating rice is going to do for me is make me hungrier.
>>
>>40754568
I think I need to find some outlet other than eating. You might be on to something with thathe second bit, though. I've constantly been running around doing shit for this renovation, so working out has been put on the back burner. That could be making things worse for me.
It'll be over and done with in a week or so, so at least I know it won't last.
>>
>>40754557
It's all about percentages. I mean for me to lose a pound is a big deal because I'm tiny, but some 6' 3" 400-lb Pepe losing a pound is an extremely small percent of their body.

It's better, but still not great. It has some fiber in it to smooth out the insulin spike, but the spike is still there. I'm not saying never eat rice, but, it's certainly something I'd avoid when trying to get clean. Then just have it in moderation when maintaining or bulking.

I've gained almost 25 pounds since graduating from college. I went from 185 to 210 because of a combination of poor eating habits, changes in medication, and general unhappiness from moving back to my hometown and living with my parents.

Breakfast replaced with protein shake with water and spinach and sometimes a handfull of nuts or a banana.
Lunch rice and one chicken breast
Snack some cereal bar within the day
Dinner same as lunch or wholegrain past with chicken breast/turkey steak
That's my meals for most of the days.
Sometimes i do cheat but my fancy cheats are just philadelphia, salmon rye bread and cider/beer (but happens once a week usually). Hit gym 5-6 times a week for 2++ hours with (10 minutes jogging at 10.5 km, 5 minutes 5% incline walking at 6km, walk 5 minutes and then 5 minutes at stairmachine at 8-10 speed) , diet and lifting. Muscle gains are good, but core is loosing fat much slower than usually. My fatloss is starting to stale and last week lost only 2 pounds. I exercise and in my room when i'm home doing push ups and other shit. I'm really going hard with the gym, only and only because currently i'm friendzoned by my crush and she really cares about looks. I know it's really bad but i also vape sometimes when i'm hungry and on verge of binge eating (i'm a fucking fag i know). It's mostly the diet though but i always lose weight fast to 220 pounds but it's really hard to go lower so i just hope for the best now.

Honestly, I sometimes lurk these threads but never post on /fit/, but here's me

I generally drink 400 or 800 calories of soylent a day (far left bottle in your picture). Really works for me as a breakfast in the morning, and sometimes as a lunch or part of a lunch. I really like em, I get them delivered monthly on amazon with that 15% pantry discount.

I'm down 20 (260 -> 240, 5"10) lbs since xmas, if you're wondering.

but I only ate half a piece of fish for breakfast and didn't eat again until dinner so I'm good.
>>
>>40755736
I just realized I worded this retarded ly I meant I lost 9 pounds in about three days. Is this normal for some people?
>>
>>40756013
It's not normal but not worrying either.
If you just sttarted your weightloss journey large quick drops are common as your sodium levels drop, your water weight drops, your bowels clean out from less food, your glycogen levels drop etc.
If you have been losing for a while and had been plateau a large drop usually happens after a while, your fat cells are filled with water when they are emptied of energy and then will eventually drop all that water leading to the end of plateau.
>>
>>40756013
Idk why but I seem to loose a lot of weight at once. For example I was about 240 and I couldn't get any lower. I was struggling for about 2 weeks. Then I got on the scale one day and I was like 234. This has happened to me a couple of times now. Don't worry you're not dying.
>>
>>40756036
So loosing weight will be harder now that I've reached this level?>>40756044
Alright thanks, im going to keep on only 30 more pounds to go.
>>
>>40756073
well, it'll start going at a mostly steady weight until you plateau again.
Keep in mind that the scales aren't always an accurate representation of your fat loss for a day to day basis, if you're at a deficit you're losing fat but not necessarily showing it on the scales for the reason I said.
If you're antsy I can suggest a couple things, switch to weekly weigh ins, supplement scales with measurements such as waist thighs biceps chest neck etc, also download a graphing app like libra, or happy scale, these both show you your weight graphed so you can see downward trends.
Overall just focus on hitting a deficit on a day to day basis and the weight will come off.
Good luck
>>
>>40756095
One more thing.
every 5lb or so recalculate your TDEE and subtract 500cal, that's your new deficit as it'll change as you lose weight. Keep in mind you should not go below generally 1500cal a day for men, and 1200cal a day for women.
>>
>>40755505
>>40755512

I have a normal life, I get straight As, have a great relationship, a house, friends etc... I just cant stand fatness.
>>

>>
Weigh in is tomorrow but I still checked my weight tonight
Weight in pounds obv
Sw: 241
Lw: 231
CW: 229

To see I got below 230 this week is amazing to me.
I'm telling you, anyone here with trouble controlling their urges, do meal prep. Even if you only meal prep one meal, or just snacks, do something so you know you have something you can grab quick before anything else in the kitchen distracts you

It's changed my life, given me more freedom and time during the week, and after awhile you start knowing what prepped items are x amount of calories so if you want just a small snack, you'll know more intuitively what to grab overtime.

Clocking in your calories BEFORE you eat helps too. First thing I do everyday is input what I plan to eat that day and when i get to snacks, I plug them in first and see if i still want them or not.

WE CAN DO THIS FELLOW FATTIES!
>>
>>40756175
I do the same. Did you see the newest 600 lb life with boil leg james? I couldn't make it through all of it but it immediately broke any cravings i had for sweets before i watched it lmfao.

Check out Dr. Kevin Hall, from the NIH, book “Comparative Physiology of Fasting, Starvation, and Food Limitation." It's a myth that ultra-high deficits and fasting waste muscle much higher than typical deficits. There is certainly a baseline low level of protein turnover, but we do not start ramping up protein consumption. We don’t start burning muscle, we start conserving muscle.

>>40757085
This is possibly an issue, but it varies from person to person. I know a number of people who have gotten the gastric sleeve and other weight loss surgery, that there is a big range of what happens to their skin. The older ones certainly get the most lose skin, versus the youngest I know that has had it - only a teen - had basically none. I think it's largely a function of age and how supple the skin is.
>>
>>40757607
I found going below 1400 calories (at 5' 10") started to affect my energy, but only after a few weeks. It really varies though, because it's all how well you can eat within that 1400 calories. If you eat extremely healthy in there and try to get a really balance diet, you'll be better than if you ate a bunch of white bread in that allotment or something. A multivitamin did help, I noticed an increase in energy.

So I'd say you should keep your calories a bit higher if you still have a long way to go. 1700 calories was very sustainable for me.
>>
>>40757632
Alright I'll try going off slow
Thanks!
>>
So many issues with me right now.

>Be college student
>Literally end up having unhealthy shit at parties cause there's only pizza and soda
>Been stuck at 255-260 even when you add in the months where I manage to maintain my weight

But the real issue is that I'm having trouble trying to eat better but there are days where I'm not hungry until 8pm and getting cheap, healthy food on campus is basically nigh impossible. My friend told me it's my hormones. Should I try a low-carb diet this time?
>>
>>40757642
Is there any multivitamins you would suggest in general?
My diet is kind of garbage but I don't really have time for doing anything too crazy since I work 50 hour weeks and I've just started going to the gym over the last two weeks
>>
>>40757007
This is what happens when you lose weight too fast
>Loose muscle mass
>potential for losing or harming your HEART muscle which doesn't grow back
>Potential for loose skin is way higher than if you do it slowly
>Fucking stupid
>you're going to put all of that weight back on once you start eating for maintenance dumbass.

>Saving money by cooking at home

Eat yufka instead of Döner it has much less calories. Without the sauce you are looking at 75cals for 100g
>>
>>40757655
Then for sure be careful going very low in calories. The lower you go in calories, the more you have to be careful with getting the best nutrition. I realize time makes eating well hard, that's one of my favorite things about doing intermittent fasting: simplicity. I skip breakfast and lunch and just eat dinner, so I get my work done faster (no lunch break, and I guess subtract some breakfast time) and then at night I focus on a good meal.
>>
>>40757655
>>40757690
Oh and I take Adam's for Men. There is probably better, but, it seems to cover most the bases.
>>
>>40757607
It depends on what you eat, what your height is, etc. Also if you use My Fitness Pal it's showing you net calories so it's calculated a little different (Maybe someone here can explain it better than I can cause I can't quite word it right since i don't 100% get it either) but basically they already calculate how much you'll burn from the exercise you say you'll do and your metabolic rate and shit into that final total so it's assumign you're going to eat back what you work off.

Someone told me that I should always eat back what I work out but I don't think that sounds right. I know not eating enough can stagnate weight loss but if i'm not hungry, i haven't been forcing myself to eat more.
>>
>>40757651

If you can't control yourself at parties, stop partying. It's time to get serious. If you HAVE to go to the party, bring something to eat to the party either as a shareable thing or just to stop yourself from eating the shitty food.

What does your usual diet look like? Are you counting calories? How active are you?

If you have a proper place to live (not a shitty dorm) where you can cook, start cooking meals. If you don't get hungry until dinner, learn to meal prep dinner so all you have to do is grab it, throw it in your bag, and nuke it when you do get hungry. If you do meal prep you'll only have to cook it once a week which is great otherwise just make food before you leave and bring it with you.

Stop being lazy and making excuses to make shitty choices.
>>
>>40757690
I feel like if I fast during the day I'll end up pretty hungry during lunch, although potentially working through lunch would help me be less stressed and/or have free time.

Most fitness common knowledge is poor understanding of complex science. All deficits have an impact on metabolism. It's more visible in high deficit diets as weight loss is fast so you hitting the lowered numbers faster. That's why high deficit diets are advised to take diet breaks

Not that guy but I don't feel like I can talk about my weight loss around my friends at all. They are all overweight to varying degrees, and 'trying' to lose weight. They make me feel like I'm rubbing it into their faces when it's just an important part of my life right now.

The worst part is I know exactly how they feel because I used to be the same way, I know that if I try to push them into it doing it properly they would just resist it more. They have to really want it for themselves first.

GUYS is starvation mode a meme?

I need to know.
>>
>>40752494
>Get some protein within 30 minutes after your workout

This is not in the sticky. The following is what it says about protein after workout:

>have some protein and carbs 1-3 hours before, and some protein and carbs 0-1.5 hours after. You can follow this protocol if you need exact numbers. It doesn't need to be immediate. In fact, you don't even need protein post-workout assuming you're not lifting in a fasted state

>It doesn't need to be immediate

>you don't even need protein post-workout assuming you're not lifting in a fasted state

The advice should be that you just need to eat a good meal sometime in the next 4 hours after gym.
>>
>>40758390
What do you mean "is it a meme"?

You will lose weight faster but unhealthily and may die but probably wont
>>
>>40758388
Good luck fatty. Do everything the OP text says and post progress in a few months.

>>40758390
Yes and no. No, you'r body won't stop losing weight, and as long as your body gets some protein and you actually use your muscles, you won't keep your fat and just lose muscle. But it's a meme because fat fucks like you try it for two days and then completely give up after they inevitably cheat. It also has some shitty effects on body composition (which you know all about because you READ THE FUCKING STICKY) aaaaand I'm not going to continue this reply. Read the sticky.

It takes a week to lose 2 pounds if you are cutting as much as possible safely (assuming you aren't 350+ lbs). Depending on how much you weigh it could take you a year or more to get a to a healthy weight and then you need to eat well enough to keep it off for the rest of your life.

Stop looking for a fast way out of being a fat ass

The idea that you'll stop losing weight if you use a too large deficit is wrong. The drop in BMR due to being in a caloric deficit doesn't equal the deficit. It can slowly progress to negating most of a deficit but never all of it. Your metabolism can only slow down so much. If your total calories are below your current BMR, then there's no way for your weight loss to stop. The bigger the deficit the faster you lose; there's no magic threshold where your body stops following the laws of physics and refuses to lose more mass.

But there's a small caveat to consider. Your base metabolism isn't all of your energy use, of course. You might unconsciously decrease your physical activity considerably and drop your energy use even more. Various unnoticed choices like using the elevator more often, sitting more often, not joggling your foot as much and lots of other ordinarily unconscious movements and moments of exercise that your mind influences you to do less can add up to a bigger total decrease in energy usage.

But this requires there to be activity that can be decreased. If you were already close being sedentary 24/7, then there's hardly anything to cut out that could reduce your energy use.

I like a shake after my workout just to help me meet some vitamin goals and shit (I don't take whey because of an allergy so i hve some "protein and green" plant based mix that tastes great.

Part of it is it's my indulgence for the day (It's a healthy "milkshake" that doesn't taste like crap, plus I use tea to mix it which gives me the benefits of whatever kind of tea it is.

If you're gonna do a shake after a workout, make it worth it and give your body an actual boost with it.

It helps me stop snacking mindlessly too because I can sip on it for an hour or two and feel good.
>>
>>40758390
just stop eating as much jesus. if you don't care about your health do meth every weekend for a couple months and youll be at target weight.
>>
>>40758466
It's fine to have a snack, what matters is what kind of snack it is. Look at your meals for the day, have you tracked anything out? Get a healthy snack, make sure it fits with what else you plan to eat that day (and you SHOULD plan this out even if just in your head) and you're fine.

My go-to is an apple with a serving of almond butter (2 tablespoons, it's perfect amount for the whole apple really). You can use a granny smith for a low-sugar apple too or use pretzel sticks, celery, whatever kind of healthy shit. Just make sure you don't bring the bag of pretzel sticks and instead bring a serving. A serving of pretzel sticks, depending on the brand, is actually pretty forgiving for how many sticks you get in a serving (my brand says 34 but I usually eat 10-15 with a little less almond butter).

If you just stay hungry instead of just making sure your meals aren't crazy (PLAN THEM. Put them into your calorie counter BEFORE you eat any of it, then there's no risk of going over because you can change your plans instead)
>>
>>40758825
Why the fuck would you add 200 calories to a 100 calorie apple

Just eat the fucking apple holy shit dude
>>
>>40758791
Yeah, there's nothing wrong with eating right after your workout. You don't have to but you can if you like that. What's wrong is believing that you MUST eat right after or you lose some of the potential gains of your workout.

It's always better to strive for accurate beliefs even if the consequences of some wrong beliefs are harmless because you never know which ones those are.

Lost 10lbs doing keto for the past two weeks (lifting for just over a month now after lifting off and on ~4 months last year).

Lowest weight I've been for a year (220lbs), but still at like 24% bf. Things are going great so far, I get really full from eating pretty much anything now to the point where I'm at only 1000 calories and not hungry, which I'm pretty worried about. I'm also losing like 1/2 a lb. a day.

Weight myself this morning and I went up to 222 :(, all I ate was a half rotisserie chicken, sausage, eggs, a scope of whey with water, and a cup of tea, still at a deficit.

I hope this is only because I ate some egg and a sausage before weighing myself this morning but shit feels so demotivational.

Popeyes is always my cheat meal. They have a 3 piece special on Thursdays, so I get two of those (thigh, leg, wing). It comes in at under 1300 calories and 42 carbs, which apparently is under my ketosis tolerance.

I usually just eat that as my only meal for the day then just drink like coffee or tea to supplement.

You shouldn't even take measurements in any other circumstances except those in which you do your comparisons. If you didn't measure during the morning window, don't measure at all that day. It'll just make you feel confused and affect your motivation, as you saw. Your total body weight is only a proxy for the thing you're really measuring: fat tissue. You want to eliminate the variance caused by other variables on your total weight so that you're measuring the changes in fat tissue mass as accurately as possible.

But it's practically impossible to make all other variables affecting your total weight be constant in each measurement. So what you should is average multiple measurements which negates some variance. Don't let yourself be concerned with the inevitable variation in daily weight. Just look at weekly averages.

Lmfao what the fuck brand are you buying that 2 tablespoons is 200 calories? Retard.

Plus if you're working out the right amount 200 calories shouldn't affect you much.

I've been having trouble not eating enough honestly (consistently keep ending up under 1000 calories and needing to add this snack just to make the minimum calories for the day).

Plus I got the suggestion from a woman who is super fit so obviously that extra 100 calories isn't going to affect it much

I've also lost 20 pounds consistently having this snack so suck a dick retard.

>>
>>40760761
Oh hey anon I can help you out because I'm the same.

Buy Carifa almondmilk creamer. You'll be floored at how little sugar is in it. Two servings of that give me the perfect sweetness.
You can also try other sweeteners that are lower in sugar or lower on the glycemic index like agave, honey, or cassava (tapioca) syrup.
I use cassava sometimes. One serving is a tablespoon I believe but I honestly use 1/4 of a teaspoon and it's as sweet as if i used my normal amount of sugar (Whatever's 6 sugar packets worth).

Can also try switching to tea since I find they need to be way less sweet for me to enjoy them than coffee.

>>40760776
